Losing bits of fur. Normal or not?

Kushi is loosing little bits of fur. Not large clumps, but small tufts that I find after a dust bath. He is an only chinchilla child, so there's no one to fight with. Is this normal? As we live in New England, and in a dry basement apartment, he gets dust baths once a week. Any thoughts?

    Thank you everyone!

I am very new to being a chin mommy, but having a light grey belly would seem to say he is not all black? My parents raised a large chin family for years, before having me, and they said he isn't a pure black velvet? I don't particularly care what kind he is, as long as he is healthy :) I'm sure...

    Thank you everyone!

Hello all! I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you. Thanks to everyone who took their time to teach this nervous new mommy about the proper care of my chin baby! Thanks to you, Kushi is so very healthy and happy. Turns out, the man from whom I rescued her was wrong, and had no...

    Going outside?

I'm in New England. Springtime it stays in the low sixties and is dry. I would never consider bringing her out in the heat

    Going outside?

I'm curious, would it be alright for me to bring my chin's cage outside and put it in the shade while I'm out there? I'd like for her to get fresh air, and as I live in a basement apartment, that's not an option inside. I open my little windows, but they don't do much. Is it better for her to...

Kushi likes sleeping in hammock more than hidy house

Hello! My little Kushi sleeps in her hammock more often than her house. Is this unusual? I know she's just sleeping, but seeing her with her eyes shut and laying down always makes me nervous. When I say her name she jumps up quickly, so I know she's fine. But does anyone have thoughts on...

Hi there! Kushi is scratching a lot

I don't think I mean chewing the way you mean chewing. Its exactly like if she can't scratch her tail with her legs, so shes using her mouth instead. She gets baths every third day. Is that too often? If she goes more than that she tries rolling in the shavings, and that is an ineffective...

Hi there! Kushi is scratching a lot

Hello! For anyone who missed my introduction, I am a first time owner of a ten week old chinchilla kit. I'm noticing Kushi is scratching behind her ears quite a bit, and is occasionally chewing her tail. Is this normal grooming, or is there something I can do to help ease any itching? Other...

Hello! Kushi and I are new to CnH! I have some questions.

Thank you! I didn't know what an appropriate amount of time was to let her out, so I basically just let her play until she stops to eat again. I'll try cutting down her play time, and hopefully that will help. Again, thank you so much!

Hello! Kushi and I are new to CnH! I have some questions.

Hello all! I am a first time chinchilla owner with lots of questions about keeping my Kushi healthy and happy. I'd like to give you a little background. Kushi is a ten week old female chinchilla. I have had her for two weeks or so. She eats timothy hay and carefresh complete chinchilla food...
