How quickly do chinchillas pass/digest thiings?

Mr B made some strange poops today, they are kind of soft, misshapen, and little bit of it is even gummy, like... a booger. o_O I'm wonder if this is him passing a piece of duck tape from last week (he got a piece and chewed on part of it over night :/ ), or if its the dried nettle leaf he ate...

Should I bring my chin to an introduction?

Good point! In general I acknowledge its risky, which is why they will be living in separate cages. The new chin is younger (5 months), will that effect how they might get along or not? I guess it comes down to temperament in the end.. I can't tell if Mr. B is a super alpha or not. Would...

Should I bring my chin to an introduction?

I'm thinking of getting another male chinchilla so Mr. B will have some company! On chincare.com I read that it's good to bring the other Chinchilla so that you can ensure it gets along with the new one? Does anyone have any experience doing this? Do I just let them sniff each other through...

Taking a chinchilla out of it's "house"

Haha yeah my chin hates being picked up. He's actually okay with being held. Before trying to catch him I try to block off the entrances to his huts, or if he's in one already, try to lure him out with food. This way I don't have to pull him out, which he hates and responds to by growling...

    ears down

When I first got my chin Mr B, I didn't know he had molar spurs that were hurting him. I started noticing him keeping his ears down like that, but he was also eating less/pooping less which led to weight loss (I didn't have a scale at the time and could't tell bc he's so poofy). After observing...

    Sherwood Chinchilla pellets

Haha he does love his Oxbow cheeseburger and fries!

    Sherwood Chinchilla pellets

I recently switched my chin back to Oxbow after being on Sherwood for a few months. (it was getting expensive!) After switching back to Oxbow he gained about 10-15 grams! He was about 515-520 on Sherwood, and now he's around 530~ on Oxbow. He does really prefer the taste of Oxbow more so he...

Taking a chinchilla out of it's "house"

I remember reading somewhere (I forget which website), that it's not good to take a chinchilla out of it's little house/hut thingie when it runs in there, because that's their "safe space". You should try to pick it up/get the chinchilla when it's not in its house/hut. Does anyone have an...

Chin in fire area struggling to breath

    Best hay brand?

I've generally had good experiences with Small Pet Select , you probably got a bad batch! :/ You could try Rabbit Hole Hay, it is pricier tho. Right now I buy my hay from a local rabbit rescue, they do 10 pound bulk boxes.

    Pellet to hay ratio..

I kept Mr. B on Oxbow just to see if things would change. I think he's starting to eat more hay again! Maybe he got too excited about the Oxbow and was gorging himself on pellets earlier on haha

    Pellet to hay ratio..

Yeah I decided to switch him back to Oxbow bc it is a good pellet, but wasn't expecting there to be a big decrease in hay consumption. Hmm, maybe I will just stick with Sherwood. Poor Mr. B will be sad to not have his sweet Oxbow pellets again! Should I wait a bit before switching him back or...

    Pellet to hay ratio..

Since January I've been feeding Mr. B Sherwood, which he will eat but never finishes the 2tbsp. Before that I fed him Oxbow, he would eat almost all the pellets (~2tbsp). Recently I decided to switch him back to Oxbow because Sherwood pellets are expensive ($18 a bag!), and he super loves Oxbow...

    Can I use this?

Haha I still have a lot to learn! My vet suggested olive oil/coconut oil, which I've used (Mr. B doesn't really lick it tho, so it hasn't been a problem I guess).

    Hairball?

    Wah that's scary! :eek::eek:

    Can I use this?

It looks safe enough to me. Altho I wonder if your chin will lick it up, mine goes crazy over rolled oats! You can also use olive oil or coconut oil to moisturize the feet.

Um, I love my chin so here are photos of him

The lady I adopted him from tagged all the chinchilla's ears, so he was that way when I adopted him. I dunno why! It doesn't seem to bother him tho.

    Are Mahogany Wood/Pods chin safe?

I saw these toys on Etsy: Short Stack Poly Rope Bird Toy Palm Coins Mahogany Chunks | Etsy and am wondering if they're Chin safe? The seller says they are and people have bought them for their chins in the review section, but I rarely see Mahogany listed as a chin safe wood. I've seen...

Shedding for a few months, is that normal?

My chin Mr. B started shedding a few months ago with the visible U-shaped hairline on his back, and even a few tufts on the ears etc. It's been a few months and he still has little fur tufts on his butt/rump area. I read that shedding can take a few months or even just a few weeks, but I feel...

    Chinchilla not eating

Its hard to visually check if your chin is underweight (all that super cute fluff!), if you don't have a scale you can check by feeling for their ribs/spine through their fur. If it's easy to feel the notches on the spine and individual ribs, he's underweight. A healthy chin shoudl feel like...
