I use 10" long and 6" diameter.

That isn't my cage, but you can get the metal pans from bassequipment.com, and you can either buy or make the fleece liners. I believe Kara made her own, though. The chins are supposed to pee on the fleece. The liners are used instead of bedding, and you wash/change them out every few days.

Neither fabric would be "safe" for a chin to ingest, however, fleece is probably less likely to be ingested. It doesn't come apart as easily as other fabrics, so usually the most a chin will do is test nibble it at first, and then leave it alone. Obviously, if a chin is continually eating the...

I prefer tall as well. My chins all spend the majority of their time at the top of their cages. As long as you can prevent falls with ledges, hammocks etc., I would go for height over width.
