    Silver Surfer

I have two and I hate them. After about six months they became extremely noisy. I prefer the Flying Saucer. Worth the long term investment. I am about to junk my Silver Surfers.

Visiting the Chinchilla Reserve in Chile

I have heard some old time ranchers have gone and did not see many chinchillas in the wild, but did see some. I would also love to see some photos!

    chin breeder in Utah

Yes! Narcissus has great animals too and is she super helpful. I'm not gonna lie, my state geography isn't the best. Heck it wasn't until I moved up here that I learned that Idaho bordered both Washington and Oregon...I honestly thought it just bored Washington. Lol. go American education system! Ha

    Silver Surfer vs ChinSpin

That's what I like about them, IF the bearing starts to get a little noisy it's can be replaced, which I have only had to do twice between 20 wheels over four years. Great craftsmanship. The other wheels can't be maintained if the bearing goes.

    Silver Surfer vs ChinSpin

The Flying Saucer Wheel is the only one I have been happy with. The others are either too small, narrow, noisy, or cant be repaired once worn down. Direct from the manufacturer: http://www.flyingsaucerwheels.com/index.html

What do people use for a litter pan

I use heavy square ceramic baking dishes, about 10". I find the chins are more likely to use these and with 2.5" sides, more shavings stay in. The smaller ones I found were messy I think because the whole chin couldn't go in there to do their business.

    *sigh* Unsafe pine wood, right?

Ah, sorry, misread that. The kiln dried part is only there because you need to make sure the wood is completely dry. The untreated meaning that nothing to prevent rot or insects was added (which you don't want). It is not very common (at least where I am from) to find any untreated wood that is...

Kiln dried pine is exactly what you want. You're fine.

    Pro-C supplements?

Those tablets are excellent. The really important stuff in there s the probiotic. I feed them to all of my animals and they never get GI tract issues and I haven't had an illness in 4 years of breeding. They have worked a long time on formulating that tablet and I know my chins benefit from them.

    Chin shows?

Shows are neither loud nor scary. In fact it's typically quiet (if participants are respectful during the judging). Yes, the cage is small but most chins handle it pretty well. Not mich room to go crazy so they typically just sit/lay there.

    Natural Light / Sunlight

Personally I believe chins should be on a timed light source which mimics what is going on outside. Mine is 12 hours on 12 off year round. They are crepuscular, so they are neither active most during the day, nor the evening, but rather around dusk and dawn. I think it is good for them to be...
