HELP! Doe became very agressive to her hutch mates after spay!!!

Rabbits are similar to chins in that they don't always like to have a cagemate, and even if they do, they can suddenly decide one day that they no longer like their cagemate. If you separate bonded rabbits, they can "forget" each other and have to be completely re-introduced. They may even...

    Lethal factor

That's not a true lethal gene. Maybe it could be classified as a "partial lethal" gene, but mostly it's just a gene which is linked to hermaphroditism. A true lethal gene is typically a gene which either causes death in utero, or death shortly after birth (within a matter of days). A true lethal...

    Lost my lifelong dream

So sorry for your loss. I know just how you feel; my 31 year old horse, Paris, passed away from a heart attack back in April. He was my first horse and a dream come true for me. Think of all the great times you had with him, and try to take comfort in the fact that you gave him a great life...

    New Scam? REALLY Unnerved

A couple of months ago, I got a voicemail on my cell phone from a guy with a heavy "foreign" accent (which I couldn't place), telling me he was a lawyer. He didn't say what firm he was with, but he informed me that he needed to talk to me about a lawsuit involving a good friend of mine. He told...

~rofl~ some of the pictures posted of animals

Those rabbits look like someone's breeding experiment. Brownie looks like a rex-furred Lionhead lop, which would take some effort on the part of the breeder to achieve. Hot Fudge looks like (s)he's supposed to be a Velveteen lop, but without the proper "English lop" ears. I agree that some of...

    Chinchilla's at a zoo

That's kind of like saying that, if you figure a human lives for 80 years, then we're only 5 generations removed from the days of Shakespeare, or from the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock.

Mother pleads guilty to killing her baby during her Farmville game

I know a kid who has brain damage from being shaken by a babysitter when the kid was an infant. I'm not particularly fond of babies, but I cannot fathom how someone could do that to such a helpless little person. It nauseates me to think of it.

    Argh! Craigslist people!!

Here's a beauty: http://omaha.craigslist.org/pet/2024216613.html "I have a pair of Chinchillas I need to find a home for. Our jobs are changing, and we are never home. Phil is a white mosaic. He loves to be petted, and will allow people to hold him. Violet is a standard grey. She has been...

    Tesla

Even the band Tesla was named after Nikola Tesla. He was an amazing inventor whose genius was astounding. I recommend reading about him sometime if you're not familiar with him. I love the chinny Tesla! What a cutie!

    Lionhead Rabbit

A couple of good Lionhead specific sites include the Lionhead Rabbit Site and the North American Lionhead Rabbit Club. Lionheads require the same care as every other breed, though they do require some extra attention to grooming, due to their longer fur around the head and flanks. The Rabbit...

Buying food from members or pet stores?

I always get my Oxbow here in town. There's a store where I can get a 10 lb. bag for $13.50, which is great.

    Silent spinners?

I had a pet hamster and got a silent spinner for her, and after about a month, the wheel part broke off its support structure. Luckily the hamster didn't get trapped under/inside the wheel when it broke off. Then, fool that I was, I replaced it with ANOTHER silent spinner, which broke in...

BRCA mutation test and opinions please!

Ovarian cancer runs in my family (my dad's mom died from it at age 40, and my mom and all of my aunts on both sides have had trouble with their ovaries, and thus have had hysterectomies). I will definitely have a hysterectomy myself at some point; probably either after I have a couple of kids...

UGH!! Need to get this off my chest...

There's no way my dad would've let me use the washer and dryer at his house to wash fleece liners or the like for my animals. My dad is not a pet person and while he is very kind to animals, he is also very, very clean. (When our family had a dog, he would vacuum the whole house twice a day.)...

    Reputable Dog Breeders and Debarking

I decry loud babies all the time, but I would never have one devocalized. :P Anyway, I wouldn't buy from a breeder who debarks all their dogs. I don't like the idea of such procedures except in extreme circumstances.
