    Chin Treats?

Essentia on here, if you look up her user name has some incredible chin cookies! I know I have heard shredded wheat is supposed to be good. Though from what I know and many breeders say, treats are more for the owner than the chin. Chins get all they need from their pellets and hay in reality...

    Appa is small?

Look at that cutie! Appa yip yip ( I take it he is named after Avatar?) What are you feeding him? That could contribute to weight. Not all pellets are made equal. Does he get treats? If so how often? At his age it is good for him to have unlimited high quality pellets and fresh hay and almost...

    Bottled or tap water?

Sorry I mean obviously lead is bad for chins! But what about water hardness?

    Bottled or tap water?

Is lead or hard water bad for chins? I completely understand using bottled water or a water purifier for bacterial contamination, but I did not know about water hardness.

    Bottled or tap water?

I am curious what everyone uses for their water source. I know a lot of people use bottled water. Thoughts? Is there a reason for using bottled water besides concern of loose stool from possible bacteria in tap water?

Silly dog: How do poodles sleep?

My boy decided to take up the entire couch last night. I thought other pet lovers might appreciate this. He enjoys being upsidedown and usually sleeps as such. But this was ridiculous. I didn't know dogs could even get into that position.:hilarious:

What do you personally look for in a breeding pair?

I am still new here so the mods have to approve each post of mine, I apologize for thus my delay in posting. It seems that it is posted in chronological order so my posts insert themselves before others, once they are approved. So it is easy to skip over my posts or they do not show as the most...

What do you personally look for in a breeding pair?

Thanks so much everyone for your input. I have found that I love violets and ebonies. Violet being my favorite, however is understand that they are a rather difficult mutation. So depending on your advice I will likely stick to one or the other. I am indeed in North East. I live in Upstate New...

What do you personally look for in a breeding pair?

Hey, I am hoping on getting into breeding, once I have the knowledge necessary. I will be attending the NY/NE show to learn this as well, but I was hoping the breeders here could tell me what they look for when purchasing a breeding chin. I know you want to look for chins that complement one...

    Ebony Phenotype vs. Genotype

Just a question, I have a background in genetics but not so much chin breeding, but I have read a lot on it. So could ebony genes possibly contain a genetic switch? I have heard that it can skip generations or chins can be ebony carriers and then when mated to a standard produce a light ebony...

dumbest thing your chin has ever done

One of mine ran in their wheel, in top of it. Needless to say she soon proceeded to fall off. Her cage mate then went into the wheel to run so she jumped back ontop of it and tried to run ontop again. She of course fell back off. When they were younger, same pair, one was resting on their...

    Help Please...

That must've been quite a surprise! I know it is not too uncommon for pet stores to mess up genders. I can share with you my own research which should help until someone with experience answers your thread. Some things need to be done quickly. 1. Yes, remove dad or better yet mom and the kits...

    Runs, colonies, or pairs?

Hey everyone, First of all I apologize if this belongs in the housing section I tried to make an educated guess as to which category to out this in and figured it has more to do with breeding, technically. So anyways, here it goes! I know that pros and cons of each breeding set up is...

    Excited to be here

Hello everyone! My name is Sydney. I have always loved chinchillas, and got my first close to 6 years ago ( can't believe how time flies!). I added a second edition a bit after and have loved having them. Presently I have 3 gorgeous chins, a standard a mosiac and a dark ebony. The trio...
