    Poor quality hay this summer/fall?

The hay here is awful this year. My feed store had to truck timothy in from Oregon and even then, the price is about $15 higher a bale than it used to be!

    Quads again

Good luck! I hate quad litters. I normally foster a kit or two out if I have other nursing females with single kits. I find my spring/early summer litters tend to be larger than my fall/winter litters.

My male chinchilla XiaoBai X-ray , help !

Cut the treats! They are not a necessary part of the diet and definitely can cause more harm than good, especially if your chin is already experiencing gut issues. Just free feed pellets and timothy hay so he is taking in enough fiber and substance to keep his GI tract moving food through...

Introducing A Female Chinchilla to My Current Female One

I pair chins all the time for pair and trios, both for breeding and in same-sex groups. My best success is by putting them side-by-side in a divided wire carrier for about 24 hours. They have food and water and are basically set up how I would have my chins set up for transport to the shows...

    Food Troubles

According to this safe wood guide, rose branches or anything from the rose family is safe: http://www.chinchillas2home.co.uk/safewoods.htm Of course you would need to remove thorns just as we do for Cholla cactus and other spiny woods.

    Hay

There are many good brands out there but what is most important is that the hay is fresh, smells fragrant and not musty, and is free of mold and excess moisture. As for me, I purchase horse quality Timothy hay from my local feed store. I buy a bale at a time but some feed stores will sell by...

    What Kind of White?

Yes, I call all my whites "whites" regardless of pattern or lack thereof. The terms such as "silver," "mosaic," "predominantly white", "extreme mosaic", "reverse mosaic," are all terms I've heard used to describe the patterning and appearance of that white chin. But genetically, a white is a...

Dust build up in the ears?

Chins normally shake off any dust but and I've never noticed any problems. It shouldn't build up unless there is moisture in the ears. Do you use anything on her ears, by chance? I know some owners put Bag Balm or vitamin E oil on their chin ' s easy to combat dry skin but that can cause dust...

    Help with mix food contents

I see rolled oats, carob, rose hips, and papaya. I'm not sure what the rest of the items are. Regardless, I would just do a cold turkey switch on to a good quality feed.

    Weighing a chin

I just put the chin on and use my hands as a barrier to prevent them from getting off the surface. If your chin won't cooperate, you can put a box or even their dust container would work, tare the scale, and then put the chin in.

    "Champagne" Chinchillas

Yes, I often hear that they look like pink whites but you can see the difference under the show lights. They have a pretty golden glow to them.

    "Champagne" Chinchillas

Here is a color comparison between some 3 month olds. The chins on the outside are pink whites and the center chin is a champagne. You can see that under show lights, the color difference is much more evident.
