    Then there was none...

Many of you know me although I've not been able to be online a lot lately between finishing nursing school, work, health issues and family issues with my oldest daughter's half sister being diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 4 years old this year.... I also said that I would never sell. I...

    Misc

Modern chinchilla fur farming hard back, this is a good book with a lot of great information about quality, fur, general care, and some of my favorite is the in depth of how chins got here to the US and such with photos of the original set ups. $80 shipped I also have 5 vintage articles for...

    Safe wood chew?

General pet stores will say it's safe if the package has a picture of it on there. I've never seen that item in person, and can't tell much from the picture you have there, but I'd maybe error on the side of caution with anything from the pet store....

Cage Cleaning- It has to be easier!

To help with floor area clean up why not get some of those chair/desk mats, or even just put a section of laminate flooring together and set it up under the cage on top of the carpet? That would help with some cleaning around the cage as you talked about carpet being a concern.

    Tiny baby

I agree with Claire, she looks bigger than 194 grams. Dwarves have a unique hobbling gait when they move. They tend to have short smooshy faces and very wide set ears, much wider hips than front ends as well.

    How cold can chinchillas tolerate?

When I had the chin house I'd heat minimally, it wasn't abnormal for it to be 55 in there, occasional if I didn't get the propane switched over before it ran out, it'd freeze, my water lines would literally be frozen by morning and I never saw any ill effects of it. I know many larger show...

Oats and Cherrios safe for babies?

Treats are what people think they are... what I'm saying is people get stuck in what they think a treat is. We think of a treat as something to eat. Chins dont. I small twig is a treat, a piece of a different kind of hay is a treat... I don't understand where the "no treats until 6 months"...

    They escaped!

I love a live trap. They will eventually go in if nothing other than curiosity!

Looking for a senior chin in Northeast Ohio

I don't know that an older chin would be any more "tame" than a younger one per se. It's all just their temperament more than age. I'd imagine that you could find a rancher with a laid back retired chin, or a rescue pretty easy in that area as there are a lot of chins in OH. I'm not familiar...

    Introductions for large colonies

Basically a cat carrier. Enough room for the chins to sit next to each other, not be flung around, not try to get territorial en route. I had a nice collapsible nylabone cage that I loved for this sort of thing, but after many years of use it became broken.... Like Dawn said, they don't need a...

I think I need to give up my chins :(

I have a step by step for making wood surrounds for CN and FN's on my site. I used pine, cost was like... $25 depending on how many shelves you want and such.

I think I need to give up my chins :(

Play time in most houses (note I did not say all...) is an accident waiting to happen. Unless you have a area/room just for chins for playtime... it's not worth it for me to risk hurting a chin because they look cute running around. In return I don't have to dig a chin out from a couch or under...

    ISO Water bottle recommendations

I love the valve systems... Even with a couple chins I have one, lol.

Is my chin just getting old??

I agree it should not be an age thing. I would look into something else going on there...

I think I need to give up my chins :(

Sounds like you need to ditch the fleece, I've never understood it for most part.

    Introductions for large colonies

Transporting them in a Ryerson type cage won't offer any en route bonding. Adequate space is good, but if a chin really wants to go after another, no amount of space will make a difference. I would personally go with a group of just weaned animals, or a group of older breeding females who are...

    Neat article from 1933

I liked how it had quite a bit of the story, it wasn't like it was just a regurgitated version, but more of an interview in sections with Chapman...

Sorry for the wait... DIY show waterer tutorial

Once you get it down it's not too bad. Just take your time threading the valve or it'll be all crooked, lol.
