Chins in a blanket... no, no I mean basement!

I love that picture! Thanks so much; I think I'm going to have to get one of those now. :)

Chins in a blanket... no, no I mean basement!

Very nice! I'm a little jealous. :) A little off-topic, but I've been meaning to try to figure out who had the playpen I liked on here - and I think it might be yours! Is that one of the ones that has a cover for the top so they can't jump out? I've been trying to remember who had posted the...

    Glass Jam Jar

I thought about trying this myself, but I'm too worried that he'd somehow get his head (or anything else he could try to work in there) stuck in the jar. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but that thought has always kept me from trying it!

New FN metal tray- Chin making a RACKET! HELP

I don't have the metal pans myself, but I think I've seen others recommend putting something down under the tray, such as a layer of fleece. I'm not sure how much noise the pan itself makes, or if it's just the pan banging on the bottom of his cage. If it's the latter, something under there...

How exactly does the average chinchilla act?

I feel like this is pretty comparable to asking how an average person acts...

    Is he really watching t.v.?

Mine seems to really like sword-fighting. I was watching Zorro one afternoon, and every time the swords came out, he'd start zooming around his cage bouncing off of everything. It reminded me of a little kid running around trying to do what he saw on tv!

Any one have this pet yard??

I haven't used that exact playpen, but I've tried this one (which is 24" high) and my chin got out of it with no problem. He can jump right to the top and jump out, or he can scale up the wall easily. I doubt the extra 2" on the model you posted would be much of a challenge! :)

    rehoming? adoption? selling? :(

I can definitely relate to your situation. My fiancé and I have both been on unemployment in the past year (we both worked for the same company, and got laid off several months apart). He's since found a job, but he only makes just enough to cover rent - no other bills. We've already had to...

    One or two chins?

I have a single chin, and I'll admit that I'm lazy and don't take him out everyday. He's very attached to both my fiancé and I though, and he gets tons of love and attention throughout the day (his cage is in a very central location in our apartment, so we stop to see him almost every time we...

So proud of myself. . .

I worked at Petsmart for a year - they basically tell you that if you see any 'bits', it's male. It doesn't matter what they look like; if there's anything hanging out, it's a boy. Also, only the managers will really ever sex the animals, and that's only a very quick check when they're first...

How to dry three layer fleece?

I made my own as well, and also neglected to wash & dry them beforehand. I toss them in on low heat, and haven't seen any noticeable shrinkage. I'm pretty sure mine were a little large to begin with though, so no guarantees! :)

    Introducing a new chin

Mine probably wouldn't have been as bad, but I instinctively tried to pull away and he must have locked his jaw or something - he had a crazy grip on me. He'd bitten straight in, but I managed to tear skin when I tried to pull away. Hurt like crazy!

    Introducing a new chin

I hope it goes well for you! One note of caution though, you may want to have a pair of gloves or something on hand should they not get along. I tried a similar introduction once (I sat in the playpen with them), and got a pretty nasty bite when I stopped one chin from attacking the other...

can a cat and a chin live together?

I have one cat and one chin in a one bedroom apartment, but my advice would be not to get a cat now that you have a chinchilla. The only reason we have both is because one was my pet and one was my fiancé's, and we knew the temperaments of both animals very well before moving in together. In my...

How much food do your chinnys eat?

A little off-topic, but I wanted to mention that those hanging hay balls can be dangerous. My friend's chinchilla got his head stuck in one overnight, and was probably struggling for several hours to get his head free before my friend found him. Luckily, he wasn't hurt (just very shaken up!)...

    Recommended website for his stuffs?

I don't know if she ships to Canada, unfortunately, but I want to second the recommendation for Quality Mutation Chinchillas and throw one out there for Camphor Chins. I've ordered from both now, and I've been highly impressed with the service, speed, and quality of both! :)

    Transporting chins

Ah, gotcha! I completely understand. I've been in a one-bedroom apartment, so at least there's that one room we can put him in if we have anyone over. Best of luck!

    Transporting chins

It sounds like most of the work will be in the bathroom - could you move his cage to an enclosed area (like a bedroom, maybe) and have music or other noise playing to help drown out the sound? That's what I've done the few times we've had to have people in our apartment for maintenance issues...

How much does your chin weight?

My boy is a petstore chin; my best guess as far as age would be about 3 years old. His weight has been somewhere between 575g and 600g since I bought my scale about a year ago.

    Can chins get MRSA??

I didn't recognize the name, but I'm almost 100% sure my mother had that almost 4 years ago. She had this huge nasty infestion-thing on her back that took months to clear up, and required nurses to come in and clean it out all the time. It was pretty gross! Hers eventually seemed to completely...
