Chinchilla Brushing?

I have heard a few people talk about brushing their chinchillas, is this something I should be doing? It seems like it could be a good bonding activity (depending on the chin lol)

But what kind of brushes do you guys use? And how often do you brush them?


Dont know if I should add this info or not, but I will, one is 8 weeks old, the other is around a year most likely older as he mated with his old cage mate (so I was told at least) hence me having him lol
 
You don't use brushes, you use special combs. They are around $25.00 apiece plus shipping, and come in four sizes, 1 through 4. The spacing kind of resembles a flea comb, but the tines are much sharper.

You don't have to comb out your chins, but they do look beautiful afterwards. Most chins absolutely hate it though. They squeal and cry and fight it. So, it's definitely going to be up to you whether you want to tackle it or not.
 
If you want to try, like tunes said, you can get the special chinchilla brushes, or a flea comb (which is what I use) I fet a enough fur off with just a flea comb, but chinchilla combs are on my christmas list. :D You have to know though, depending on the chin, it may take a finger off :p. I have 2 that will just sit there and let me do it, but I have 1 who just freaks and bites any second he can.
 
Just wanted to add that you don't actually brush them, either. There is a technique that you use when using the combs. I forget where it is, but someone post a video on how to correctly do it.
