I'm going tomorrow to buy the wood to start making ledges for my FN142 cage and I've been reading a lot about safe woods and what not and I am confused as to which wood would be best to use for these ledges. I know that the chins will chew on them so they have to safe for them to chew but I'm not sure of what wood is safe. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Untreated Pine works best! It is cheaper and readily available at home depot or lowes!

Personally, I LOVE poplar, but that's because it's super hard and I have a chin who WILL NOT STOP chewing her ledges. Poplar is just nice and lasts forever.

Make sure any wood you buy is kiln dried as well as untreated - most home improvement stores carry white pine which is just fine. I have pine shelving and it stands up to most of my chewers with no problem and it's relatively inexpensive.
