i have two male chinchillas and i just noticed one of my babies had sumthin on his ear. i thought he might have wet poop again and mayb got sum stuck in his fur. but when he came closer i noticed that a small bit of skin had ripped from the bottom of his ear and was still hanging from his body, it had stopped bleeding, and looked like a clean tear. Plus he didnt seem to notice it. But im assuming they had a fight, since he has two small pinpricks on his ear with dried blood on it as well. I quickly seprated them and picked him up (which he did not like.) and washed his ear. I put him in the top of the cage and checked my other chin, who had nothing wrong with him. I then picked up Pikachu (My injured chin) and trimmed away some excess hair around the wound. Washed it again and put him back in. He is now laying in down asleep in his cage. His ears arnt swollen or red. And he is acting normal except for being very tired. Which might be from me picking him up (which he absalutly hates!) But id rather avoid the vet cause of my financial situation. But im worried im gonna wake up and he will be dead :broken: Any advice would be VERY appriciated.

I have seen quite a few chins with torn ears. The ears usually heal pretty well. I would think if it isn't swollen or inflamed and doesn't get to be so, that it should heal on its own. You could put a bit of Bacitracin on it, since it is on a spot he couldn't lick. Unless he has internal damage, he shouldn't die from an uninfected ear wound. But don't worry, I always worry they are going to die too.

Keep an eye on him and make sure he's eating, drinking, and pooping normally. You could also put some blu-kote on the wound. Was there any fur piles around the cage?

Usually a tear in the ear will heal itself if it is minor. It may remain a flap, meaning not heal together with the rest of the ear, but the wound itself should be fine.

You do need to watch your chins to make sure there is no more fighting. If the other chin is the one starting the fight, then he could hurt your injured chin more.

He is restless but seems to be eating and drinking normal, poop seems fine. But thank you guys i bought some polysporne i heard that can work, so im gonna put that on tonight :)
