Things to use if building a cage?

Me and my dad are going to build my chinchilla a cage soon. He told me to look up everything i will need for it and that is safe fore her. Iv been looking at wood and stuff and it says pine or ash. But what about metal and wire to go onto the cage? does anyone know what would be best? Also if there is anything else you think i should know, that would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It is less expensive to buy a ferret nation cage. Although just tonight I saw a row of 3 metal lockers at goodwill for $50 that would have made fantastic cages with a little building

I just didn't have the skill to do it, so I caved and bought a Ferret Nation~
