Could write a book on the last 4 days, I need some simple advice but will post the question at the end

Day before xmas eve, come home from work slightly early, keep up the habit of saying hello to my two chinchillas. Barney greets me, Bertie follows. I notice Bertie has a train track of drool on his right hand side. Having lost Bunty aged 23 I am fully aware of dental issues, and assume this is the case. I IMMEDIATELY phone his vet. "Sorry Alan, she's not around until Friday, you have the first slot". I phone 6 other exotic specialists, all similar stories, holiday season not back until Friday.

Out of desperation I contacted Bunty's old vet who has now retired. All the way from South Africa where he was holidaying, he sorted me an appointment with a specialist on canvery island UK. Spirit of XMAS lives. Anyway, it got slightly better, Bertie has "perfect"teeth, issue was a stack of food wedged in his upper most gum molar. Vet (well two I got gold service) cleaned this and gave bayril. Train track was still evident xmas day but he is happily eating. This then vanished xmas night, and the same boxing day.

The problem I have ive given baytril six doses. It gets mixed reviews here having read about 13 posts. My question is does it suppress appetite? I have a cctv cam and watch the footage he hardly touched his food last night. I am back at the vets at 11amGMT today, posting before I leave. I have force fed, which wasn't pleasant.

Any news on Baytril would help

I have 2 chins that get semi regular tooth trimmings. The vet always prescribes pain meds, antibiotics and metoclopramide (an appetite stimulant). I would request the latter. Baytril can be hard on their tummies, causing him not to eat. He also could have some discomfort even though the material in his gums has been removed.
It’s helpful to have some Oxbow Critical Care on hand if you ever need to syringe feed a chin.

Thank you for responding have critical care and a probiotic called fibreplex :)

I was given something different today, and he is very happy with mouth as I went back for a check up

Curious... I have hedgies, never had a chin. I know ANY antibiotic can mess with the gut and appetite. I know (from personal experience) Baytril tastes double nasty bitter! Got a drop on my finger once giving to hedgie, just had to take a little taste. When I have sick hedgies on antibiotics and they don’t eat well or, worse, get nasty poop, I give them a dab of yogurt, about half teaspoon, help level the gut bacteria.
Can chins be given yogurt? Might be an easy and sweeter way to help them through recovery.
