So we took penny to the vet today for her first check up and we found out she is indeed a he! We have decided to keep the name as he seems to respond it and I don't want to confuse him. Pretty annoyed at pets at home for giving us the wrong info about her gender. Luckily he wasn't put in with another chin. Other than that he got a clean bill of health which makes me very happy :)

Lol, that happened to a bird that my father and I had. We only found out when ''He'' laid an egg one Thanksgiving day! Luckily, the name Pepper fit both genders. :)

We got Lil Bubs on Craigslist and his name was previously "Sadie." We wondered why "she" was so into humping and what those big dangly bits were after "she" had been playing for a while. So we looked up how to sex chins and checked, and yup, he's got quite the boy parts on him. I'm still kicking around the idea of texting the previous owner to let her know. Did she never take him to the vet?? =/

I bought mine from a pet store which has it's own vet in store. You'd think it would be a no brainer to sex all the animals before selling them. I tried myself but I'll admit I found it hard because this is my first chinchilla and it looked like it could be boy or girl but a trained vet should know. We found a vet an hour away who specialised I'm chinchillas and although the car ride wasn't the best for penny I'm glad we did. Very glad my husband didn't cave in and let me buy the other chinchilla in the store now as that was (apparently) a girl as well x
