Oldest Chinchilla?

All my friends think my chin is old (he's 9). They were shocked when I told them he could live to be 15+ and that my aunt has one that is going 16 last time I checked. That makes me wonder, is there a record for oldest chinchilla? What's the oldest one in your herd?

I'm not sure there's any record for the oldest chinchilla. I knew of a 28 year old chinchilla a few years back, but I think there may have been one older that someone has/had.

The oldest in my herd right now is 8 years old.

Golden Chinchillas had one that I believe was 32 when he died. He was in breeding right up until his death.

My oldest was 19 when she passed away. I have several that are in their teens.

I remember the 28 year old one...I didn't know there was a 32 year old chin! That's just crazy.

That's the one I was thinking of, Peggy. When I first heard about him, he was 28 and I remember some pictures of him. He was scraggly at the end but still bright eyed, alert and active.

The chin with the record as the oldest was 28, though it seems there are even longer lived chinnies. If you scroll to the bottom of this page you can see a pic. of him, and scroll up for some more oldies:
