New cage

Hey guys

Hopefully purchasing a new cage today, only issue is on the bottom tray where id usually put newspaper and sawdust, will not be covered, so my chinchillas will actually be walking/jumping and sitting on it.
Is this a problem? Wil it harm my chinchillas?
Sorry if not explained well, very difficult to explain the situation.
Any advice would be very helpful.

Sawdust is not safe for chins (respiratory issues among other things) and newspaper shouldn't be used either as they can ingest the ink which can be toxic. I'm not sure if you mean that the chins will be literally touching and able to make contact with it or if there will be a grate over it and it will be below them? If you need a chin safe bedding use kiln dried pine or aspen shavings or, alternatively, fleece.
