Is this normal?

So I posted this over in new chin owner and then saw this and thought this was a better place for it. I got no replies over there so I am gonna try it here. This may seem like a stupid question.. but here goes anwway. I have a 3 year old female chinny names Blueberry. Anyway last night and now today when she was out for playtime and I was giving her a pet she was putting her rear into the air. Is this something females do while in heat? She has never done this before, and I have had her almost a year now, so it was a complete shock to me. I know the obvious is she is in heat... but I am sure she must have gone through other heat cycles and I have never seen this. SO... is this normal? I just want to make sure its just either something normal or just her being a weird Chinny and not something I need to worry about. Thanks a lot! Oh, and nice to meet you all

Wait... putting butt in the air when being petted means she is in heat?

I've never heard that or noticed any of my girls doing it.

True with some other animals but chins are partially induced ovulators. Meaning they release eggs in the presence of a male mounting them and not as a heat cycle. I read they do have a cycle where they are more likely to release eggs than other times but I don't think they really come in to heat like a cat or dog. Ahh what fun a cat in heat was. Sticking her rear in the air howling. My stepdad decided he'd throw her outside cause she was making annoying noises. Of course she came back with a bf and a litter followed.

Does she make any sounds or just raise her butt up?

Sounds like she's just being weird or reacting to your pet.

I didnt think it was a normal thing for them to do, Ive never read anything that said it was something they do. I was just curious. I kinda figured it was just her being weird lol. No noises or anything just a butt in the air haha. Thanks for the imput

Where did you get your info that chinchillas are partially induced ovulators? Just curious since all the websites that are scientific state they are spontaneous ovulators, such as these vet sites.
