    Reaction to antibiotics?

Apparently the vet thinks its a reaction to the baytril, one of the blisters popped and was full of a clear liquid with a little pink (no infection, hopefully?) and since he is off the antibiotics now they are keeping the area clean and going back for a follow up on Monday if it gets any worse...

    Reaction to antibiotics?

As some of you may know my chin Silver had his hind leg amputated two weeks ago today, he has apparently been doing really well and eating, pooping and hopping around but today I heard from his new owner that he has developed a few yellowish blister type lumps on his neck. Is it possible that...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

A week in from amputation and he has not chewed the wound at all, is eating and popping and moves around without any problems at all. Amazed by how quickly he is recovering, just so glad that we took the advice here rather than causing him prolonged stress and pain by attempting to set it...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

Tried to attach a picture of the amputation site, hopefully it loads (I am computer illiterate, lol) He is in very capable hands now, his new owner is lovely and very experienced with chins and has knowledge in handfeeding, so I am confident that he has a good shot at recovery since he is being...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

Had a very, very anxious day waiting but he made it through surgery without any problems! Fingers crossed that his recovery goes as smoothly and that we are hopefully out of the danger zone. Off to sleep now, might actually be able to tonight, lol.

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

Just an update.... My partner took Silver Chin in to the vet clinic at our allotted time of 11:30 and told them that we have definitely decided on a high amputation.... the vet on duty was not prepared to do it (or didnt have experience, I am not sure on this point yet) so his surgery has been...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

Just found out that the painkillers he is on are injectable, so really hoping that his appetite stay healthy. This new owner is such a champ for taking all of this on, we are paying the vet stuff but she has learnt how to inject him and is giving me updates about his well being and is committed...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

I spoke to my partner, after reading everything here we are going to say that we want it amputated. The people who are taking him have said that they will support whatever we choose, so hopefully a clean chop would have the least complications. Going to order a probiotic from the US and have it...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

And yeah Tunes he is fine physically, super active and weighin in at almost 800g making him the biggest of my boys.... Never had any problems in pooping and eating before, his only other health complaint was a case of bumble foot that we manage by using lots of fleece in his cage and sometimes...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

I thought that amputation would be the best option as well, I think the vets logic behind waiting until Monday it is to see if he leaves the bandage alone (also, this is in a pretty isolated area so no surgery times until Monday) Do they tend to pick at the site of amputation? I will try to...

Surgery or PTS I need help :(

Have not posted here for ages since all has been well with my chins.... However I am back home in Australia and my partner is in Sweden, he today transported the chins to their new home but when he arrived my darling Silver was not putting weight on his back leg... They rushed him to the vet who...

    Chinchilla Tantrums?

Silver Chin is the biggest tantrum thrower here, if I am taking too long in letting him out to play he digs up his fleece and wood shavings and diggs up his pellets. If I try to unroll the fleece again he grabs my hand with his teeth and tuggs at it. He never bites down, just kinda drags my hand...

    Holy Crap!

Oh wow, it looks amazing! I really want to get one made of my Silver Chin, but the prices are a lot to consider

Is there anything to do with a biter?

Mine all nibble and groom but one of them kind of grabs my finger in his mouth and tuggs at it like a child pulling at their mother's hand. This is also the boy who digs and tuggs at his fleece, so I think he is trying to include me in his rearangment of the cage. Brat!

    Daenerys is Home :)

She's gorgeous! Love the name too, I want to name my next animals after Daenerys' dragons.

    My chin scared me!

Silver Chin has taken to rolling his entire fleece up like a yoga mat and then somehow managing to weigh it down so it stays rolled up all night......silly chin!

Two chins chasing eachother like crazy

I was wondering the same thing about my boys... my bonded pair get along really well but as soon as my single chin has playtime I have to be really careful to make sure Sid doesn't come up to the cage to sniff at Silver Chin, the second they touch noses through the cage Silver goes into a blind...

    My chin bit me...:(

My friendliest chin bites on occasion... a week ago he bit my boyfriend and drew blood, and his finger ended up getting infected. When he bites me it is usually because he is annoyed at something or I am blocking his way, maybe your little guy was just in a bad mood, but that bite and bruise...

If a BLACK VELVET owns you...

My BV Sid behaves so differently to my other two. He is by far the most vocal, he is always beeping and peeping away. He gets playtime after the other two since if they don't get playtime straight away they have a fit, but Sid sits there patiently on his shelf watching them. When it's his turn...
