Has anyone else heard of H.R. 996: Invasive Fish & Wildlife Act?

Also, I love how the point of the legislation aims to control invasive species, but rabbits are exempt. I mean, I love rabbits, too. Who doesn't? But Google "Australia" and "rabbits" and see how much thought has really gone into this.

Has anyone else heard of H.R. 996: Invasive Fish & Wildlife Act?

I just saw mention of this on Facebook. Has anyone else heard anything about this? H.R. 996: Invasive Fish and Wildlife Prevention Act There's a list of animals that would be excluded from this, including cats, cattle, chickens, canaries, dogs, donkeys, geese, ducks, ferrets, gerbils, goats...

    Rose hips question

My entitled little princesses won't touch them whole but love the outsides. I spent a good hour cracking them open with a hammer and digging out the fuzz, and my skin was itchy for the rest of the day. I can understand why they might not want to bother with that, although honestly, they might...

    The lovely Frida

I'm guessing she likes her flying saucer: "Speed Freak"

    Meet Nyx!

Yep, and little dark grey paws.

    Meet Nyx!

Meet our newest. We're calling her Nyx (the Greek goddess of night), and she's actually a rescue, about eight months old. Her previous owner was a girl who I think got overwhelmed by her needs. She's a sweetheart and is settling in nicely. How long do most of you typically quarantine a new...

    Chincilla at a petstore

The catch was that it wasn't a local pet store. I was passing through town, it's about an hour and a half away. I called them a few days later and asked about the chins, and they claimed that they were still there and in a cooler enclosure, but sadly I kind of have to take their word on that...

    Chincilla at a petstore

We saw two baby chins in a pet store a few weeks ago, being held in a glass enclosure that had a little thermometer on the side. They looked lethargic and their ears were bright pink, and when I looked at the thermometer, it read 84 degrees! I went and talked to the owner and pointed it out to...

    Chinchilla Bath Houses

You know, I always thought those dust baths with the little ears on top looked too small for a chinchilla to get inside and actually move around for a dust bath, but I wonder if it work work as a little chilling hut. Like, keep it in the fridge until she gets hot, and then put it in her cage for...

Canadian Prime Minister has a chinchilla

Someone on Twitter mentioned to me today that Canadian PM Stephen Harper has a chinchilla, so I had to look it up. This article is from September, and aside from a tweet from Harper showing his chinchilla wearing a pilgrim hat at Thanksgiving, there's not much that's more recent out there that I...

    Chinchillas and dogs.

Frida does the same thing to our dog, who is incredibly patient about it. She's even taken to running up to him and bumping against him when she's out, like she's tagging him. That's when he sighs dramatically and leaves the room.

    The lovely Frida

It was a cheap purchase at Petsmart, I think. It's actually not all that great; the openings between the slats is too small, so she mostly ends up pulling hay from the top. It's on my list of things to replace. I thought she'd chew it up, but she seems to mostly use her lava landings for keeping...

    The lovely Frida

Frida just moved in to her new FN cage, which is MUCH bigger than what she was in before (a Ware 6-Level Clean Living cage that was plenty tall but with far too small of a footprint). My thanks to everyone who has posted photos of their FN set-ups! All the perches and ledges that seemed so...

    is it okay...?

I recently put in a hidey house that hangs near the top of her cage, and it was an instant hit. Now Frida never goes near her little house on the floor, except to chew on it. I'd imagine being a prey animal, there's a certain instinctual comfort in sleeping up high.
