    Chinchillas Keeping Cool With Booze

I'm pretty sure the OP was referring to a household freezer, which on average is at -2 F. If it really does cool twice as long as water, I'd consider using it for a heat emergency. A bottle of Absolut is very thick, I've dropped a few in my time from standing height  without breaking...

    Litter pans?

I think it depends on how often your Chin uses the litter pan. If he pees in it most of the time, its much easier to change the pan, and the liner will last longer between washes. If its 50/50, its probably not worth using the litter pan, because you will have to wash more frequently anyway.

    Quietest wheel?

The Chin spin is almost silent when you spin it, however, a good bit of noise comes from Don Ciccio's feet hitting the metal surface while hopping. I think it just depends how heavy your Chin hops on the wheel. Even when he goes hard though, its only loud when in the same room. We can barely...

    Apartment AC

I was also scrambling around for the 80 degree forecast we had last Thursday. I ended up going with this Kenmore AC based on the positive reviews, low cost and energy efficiency. http://www.consumersearch.com/air-conditioner-reviews/kenmore-70051-5200-btu I ordered it from Sears.com and picked...

    Sleeping on her side!

Don Ciccio never stops cracking me up when he sleeps. He sleeps sitting up with his head resting on his hammock. Sometimes he lays on his side in the fleece tube and let's his legs dangle off the edge. Too funny!

Ice Pod Pet Cooling Pad - Safe?

I'm also in Nj, I think window mounted fans have some value, especially on those spring/fall days when the day temp rises and drops back to the 50s at night.I've been using one all week and its worked great getting that cool air in to really cool down the room when he's most active at night...

    Poplar shelves safe?

I don't know maybe I'm paranoid but I think they could get at the fender washers. The washers need to be bigger than the wire width, exposing the top and bottom third (bottom only if there is a ledge). While I've never seen my little guy pay any mind to them, he's way too active all night to...

    A question for FN owners

See this thread to install hanger bolts without a drill http://chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31313 Just don't try that with poplar, its too hard. It will work with KD pine though. Good luck! Ps, make sure you get stainless steel hardware. Zinc is known to be toxic for...

    Is this cage good?

I have the Feisty Ferret. Its a great cage if you have space issues, and can't fit a FN. For the bottom grate, I covered it with a piece of cardboard, ceramic tile over that, and a fleece liner on top. His litter pan and a few pieces of tile in each corner keep the fleece liner down. Don...

How much water should a Chin be drinking

Thanks for all the feedback. Right now he's drinking less than 1 oz per day. I think I'll start changing the water, every 1-2 days to keep it fresh. After all, its only 8 ozs. Although the Culligan is a good filter as far as contaminants, maybe he just doesn't like the taste of it. I think...
