Had my first "bad birth" of the season.

X3 LOOKED to be a black velvet, but I honestly cannot tell. Was doing cages, got to her moms cage and say a lump in the cage, grabbed it and it was an ice cold baby. Upon looking at the baby, I noticed several things wrong: Baby was fairly small. Baby was missing an entire front leg, not even a stump left. Baby was missing half his tail, and half of a back leg. Part of the skin was ripped open, and peeling off the baby... I could have sworn I saw him/her mouth move once or twice, but I cannot be sure...either way after rubbing him a few times, i thought better of it and just left him go. Doubt he'd have made it, but if he should have--there would have been no quality of life there considering he was missing almost two limbs, skin and half a tail..

RIP little X3.

Mom has been cleaning herself quite a bit, so I'm watching her closely.

Sorry to hear about that Megan. It is something I am concerned about. I know I can't be there for all the births-but I tell ya-I sure try. I am always paranoid something is going to go wrong. Newbies need to read these threads. They always think it is soo easy but it really isn't.

I'm sorry to hear about that Megan. Hopefully mom will be fine and this will be your only bad birth. RIP X3 :(

Yep, mom was a first-time mom. I'll let her rest up a while, and give her one more shot at breeding.

Sorry about your kit - just never can tell what's gonna happen!
