Today when I was cutting his nails on the last foot I was going to do, I noticed he had a fair size growing mass on it. It looked like poop stuck at first, so I gave him a bath. Afterwards it looks more red, lumpy. It hasn't been noticed when he's had play time, and it wasn't there roughly 2 months ago when I cut his nails last. Not sure how it managed to go unnoticed, but if it got this big that quickly...i'm so worried it's something serious. He's almost 6 years old, been healthy up to this point. I've had bad luck with animals...1 a year lately it seems....lovebird had a tumour at the age of 2, they couldn't operate or do anything so I had to put her to rest. My Chameleon around the same time with prolapse, had surgery to repair a month later he relapsed. My cat having a tooth injury and having to have it pulled out and the whole dental works(they thought multi-teeth had to come out at first), dog with a mass(or mast?) cell tumor, thankfully removed with no further treatment needed even though it was cancerous as it was caught early. Just one thing after another, every year it's some pet with something.. I don't really want anymore pets because the heartaches of losing them. So I am just hoping it's not as bad as I think it'll be, and it'll be removed and he'll be fine for a few more years. :(

Sorry you have been having a rough time with your pets, hopefully this will be something easily remedied. Keep us posted!

Well only a Vet can tell you but I know abcesses can appear out of nowhere. Is it hot or painful to the touch?? Try a warm water soak and see if that helps "bring it to a head" As far as I know usually ferrets dont get tumors on their feet. I have a "few" ferrets and never had anything on their feet except for a broken toe that abcesses and a few over twichy nail cutting incidents that got nasty. I have a ferret that is almost 7 years and he is still going strong even though he has Insulinoma(can never spell it right) and is on daily medication. It is the price we humans pay to have our loved pets stay with us. Good Luck and if you need any advice PM me I am on at least once a day .

So the vet doesn't know what it is, just that it's a mass that grown there and has to be removed. Then they can send it off for testing(which i'm doing), to see what it is exactly...could be cancerous(can't tell from looking at it), which I am fearing the worst on that, but hopefully it's not...and then will be the issue of will it come back or not? So it'll be $450+tax for the surgery...which is booked for the 25th. And go from there. I'm NOT looking to do further treatment if it is cancer, as he's an older ferret and it may only make him suffer more. I'd hope even if it's cancerous it'll buy him a bit more time, and when he appears to be suffering i'll do the humane thing and put him to rest. So hoping for a smooth surgery and a recovery!

That is really sad, I can only wish you the best of luck and health to all your critters.

I got down after my pet rat died, I know what you mean, it is really really hard to lose your babies. Hopefully you will not give up, the animals out there need you...

Best wishes for your ferret, let us know how he is doing!

So the surgery went well. Now to wait for the results of what it was! *Crosses fingers for good news*

I’m glad that everything went well with the surgery. Looking forward to your updates.

So the results are back. It was cancer, but he said it was a non-spreading kind. And he went to the root of it as much as he could, so hopefully it doesn't come back.
