According to some websites, they say that apple (like here) is not good for pets (although it says "cats and dogs," it was linked from a pet squirrel site I was looking at...), but most use apple from what I see on CnH. What exactly makes it toxic? What makes Almond too? is it the cyanide thing? Cherry? More curious than anything...
 
i would say that since cats & dogs are carnivores and chins are herbavoires that it does not apply. the biggest concern with apple wood is that the trees need to be free from any sprayed toxins.
if i recall any tree that produces a fruit with a pit is toxic. apples have seeds. cherry has pits.
but i am definitely not an expert as you can tell by my non techie answer!
