This is more for those that offer limited or no 'fresh' wood.

I have shelves and/or a regular pine house in each holding cage breeding run. For the most part they nibble here and there but I had a couple that really beavered through everything put in to the point of complete destruction.

Over the last year I've started throwing the offenders a little equine electrolytes . They've all stopped, and when someone starts I'll throw a little in and they immediately quit.

Anyone else noticed this type of behavior?

I've always figured chins got enough salt/minerals in their feed and since they don't sweat I'm not sure what role it plays in their system.

The supplement is also a broad range prebiotic and digestive aid. I have always figured that random mass wood destruction meant they might be lacking something in the diet and are looking for it in the wood. Just didn't know what it was.

Just something to ponder, without a complete breakdown of the minerals in the supplement I'll never know what they're lacking.

Figured I'd ask and see if anyone had noticed that their chin(s) stopped devouring wood in response to being fed something.
