I just set up a new cage for my chin and it has a wire bottom. The bars are spaced 3/8" by 5" so they aren't square. All of the other levels of the cage are solid so I'm not worried about bumble foot or anything I just wondered if that is an okay spacing for the bottom? I don't want his feet to get stuck or anything. Any advice would be appreciated!

I wouldn't use it. If you have wire spacing it should be 1/2 x 1/2". Those openings are too big and just asking for an injury.

If possible you can cover the bottom with tiles or something.

3/8" is smaller than 1/2"... It's just that they're bigger the other direction. So it's like a tiny rectangle as opposed to a square.

I took some plastic/plexiglass (actually the cover for a light in a drop ceiling) and covered the whole bottom of my cage. No worries about injury and it is actually easier to clean. Just wipe it down versus trying to clean all those wires.

It's the 5 inches long part that worries me, not the 3/8". Usually in cages like those the wiring is flimsy at best just because of the way they are made. It doesn't take a lot for a chin (rat, degu, whatever) to pus through because it's such a long opening.
