So my chinchilla has been chewing his cage a lot tonight.. He is REALLY hyper for some reason. I think he wants out bc he's trying to squeeze his head through the bars which makes me REALLY nervous!
Anyway, is him chewing the cage for his teeth? He has TONS of things to chew on.. Yet all I hear while trying to sleep is him chewing the cage!

Chewing the cage means that your chin is bored and want to come out. Mine does it all the time right after playtiime.

i agree. giz chews on his bars when i walk into the room and thats how i know he wants to come out. sometimes, i'll give a pumice stone and he quiets down. for the most part, it means boredom and that they NEED something to do. you mention that you chin has toys in the cage, sometimes they get bored of the same toys so offer something new.

usually at night, to prevent the ridiculous amount of noise and cage chewing, i'll let him out for about 45 minutes and let him dust (not everyday though...maybe like every 3 days). after that, he goes in his cage, i give him a new stick to chew on, turn his fan down a bit, and let him chill out. it usually settles the hyperactivity.

some chinchillas chew on the cage some don't it really doesn't seem to matter about how much "play time" they get

Mine seem to do it right before/after playtime. I give them each a chew stick and that usually works :)

Lately my one chinchilla, Pandora has been doing this in the morning:
