if i remember correctly it isn't safe if it just labeled "whitewood" b/c it could be one of several woods and not all wood called white wood is safe for chins

you want to make sure you get a specific kind like KD pine, aspen or another safe wood.

Not sure either. I went to lowes and saw those, but didn't buy them. Choose the more expansive ones instead, they were called "selected pine".*

I don't personally know. But, I got a "whitewood" from my local Home Depot, told the guy that I didn't want anything but KD Pine & he told me it was exactly that.. just under a different name. Once I got home I typed the item number into Home Depot's web site and it brought up the wood and under specifications it said Spruce. Which is toxic to chins.

So I personally wouldn't take the chance with whitewood, just because I've been burned in the past & wasted 10$ on it. So I then went to Lowe's & specifically looked for KD Pine, which they did not have. So I just decided to get Poplar instead, more expensive but at least I know my fur balls are safe.

So, I would suggest to go to Lowe's or where ever you plan on buying the wood, & have a list of chin safe wood with you. Then shop around the lumber section and take a little note pad with you & write down the item number for the safe woods you find. Then come home and do some research on it. Thats what I did before I bought the poplar. I went into my Lowe's didn't ask for any kind of help because I didn't want to be bothered.. hah. And I knew what kinds of woods were considered safe, shopped around, wrote down item numbers with the board sizes and prices, then came home and researched to see if anyone had ever had any kinds of problems.
