So.. I heard you can give chinchillas a corn starch bath so I gave him one and ever since, he got some white spot on his ear. It's one so far and it doesn't seem to bother him nor is he having a shedding problem. Is it just corn starch chunk on him? I touched it and it was flakey. I gave him 2 baths so far, not in a row but 3 days apart. Today's also his bath day and I'm giving him a proper dust to bathe in but.. Is it fungus? He's not shedding so it made me confused..

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm curious as to why you're giving him corn starch baths...I've never heard of them before?

haha I read it somewhere before getting him and I thought to myself, wow what a money saver.. I regret it now :/.. but fungus usually makes chinchillas shed.. right..?

Usually, a little corn starch is added to the regular dust to help remove stains on the chin's coat. Since you used straight corn starch, it is probably a clump of corn starch. It should just wipe off or come off with a regular bath.

It was common to use to whiten chins and is banned for use (if they catch you at it) on chins you are going to show.

Just wipe whatever it is it off his ear. :))

Because it can alter the whiteness of a white chin, and hide pen staining/belly ticking. Any alteration of the natural color is not allowed. :))

Just curious but dust bath really isnt expensive.. I'd be careful on how you cut corners just to save a tiny bit of money. I don't see any reason to not use regular dust with your chins .

If your chin was shedding it may not be fungus, was he seen by a vet? Why not use regular chilla dust is reasonably priced and easy to find.

Hello everyone! I figured it out it was only corn starch.. Boy do I feel silly! Thank you for your answers though! I learnt some lessons after reading all your comments 8) he's totally fine and I hope he stays that way! Thank you!
