I'm not trying to be rude but that wire ramp looks like a broken baby chin leg waiting to happen.....especially after watching them fall all over it and push each other around...

Not at all.. I never saw them stumble on it, so it hadn't crossed my mind :hmmm:
In any case, I will move them to the upper level. Thanks for the feedback!

I was thinking the same thing.

It is totally the wrong wire spacing for chins, even an adult chin could get a leg caught in it and sustain a broken leg. The little babies are at even higher risk because those little back legs are smaller and fit through the wire very easily. Take out the ramp as soon as you can.

I winced at the the part when he jumped up. I second what they say.

With that said. It was the most adorable little thing! I watch your videos and they are very very cute! Keep them coming :)

I think Tiffany told her once already about the ramp when she posted a video of them being born.

What kind of video camera are you using. The images are pretty sharp.

First I have to say you have the most adorable chinchillas :) I agree with Jessica..your video is pretty amazing.

Ditto about the ramp. Ever since I took every wire ramp out of my cages about 10 years ago, I haven't had one broken leg or any other type injury here.

Get the ramps out of there now, not tomorrow or next week. There is no excuse for them being there, they are so obviously unsafe even for adult chinchillas.

Okay, my kits live in a nice flat environment now with Mom :)) Regarding the cage, it is the standard one that is sold at the chinchilla ranch where I bought my first chinchilla. The owners show a lot of care, and have been in the business for over 40 years, so I assume this is something they would have taken care of if they ever had any incidences. In any case, I will ask them about it the next time I'm there to pick up some more supplies.

I use a Canon S95 to shoot the videos. It's a point and shoot camera, but it takes even better videos then the digital camcorder I bought last year in the way it can handle low light and pick up all the details. The f/2.0 lens is key though, it puts all the focus on the little ones ;)

If the ranch is Valley View, in my opinion, they will sell anything regardless, that goes for supplies and chinchillas.

Yes, in fact that is where I got my chin! Can you recommend any other good chin breeder in the San Diego/Los Angeles area? Thanks!

Have you removed the ramps yet? To paraphrase your thread title "When my baby chin breaks a leg and becomes an amputee, it is not amusing."
