Hi everyone,

I just recently upgraded by growing chin from a Petsmart starter kit house to the 2-story Critter Nation. I also have a plastic wheel at the moment, as I was not aware when I got him that those wheels were not actually safe. He has recently started to run on the wheel, so I want to upgrade to a better wheel.

1. I wasn't aware that the CN has fragile bars, before reading on this forum. Which wheel would be best for this cage?

2. The Silver Surfer wheel is one of the widely recommended wheels here, but the only Web site that sells them has them listed as "out of stock". Has anyone had experience with this?

Thank you in advance!

*knock on wood* I have had a CN for several months now and have attached, moved and re-attached shelves and a flying saucer to the bars with no problem. I am always careful when tightening attachments, but so far so good!

Thanks! I was thinking about the Chin Spin (or the Leo Braun style), since the Silver Surfer isn't in stock. I like the idea of the flying saucer, but I'm not sure if my boy will take to it right away and I know he loves running on the wheel so I want to do a traditional wheel first. I figure that I will add a flying saucer later.

While I was searching around yesterday, I found this idea for mounting the wheel without having to worry about the possibility of the bars breaking:

Just an update that I ordered the Chin Spin. It came last week, and I was shocked at how big it is. I think that due to the way it attaches its weight is supported well, and may not cause problems with the bars. I guess I'll find out eventually if it does damage them, at which point I would opt to grab a piece of aluminum stock for mounting purposes.

My little guy had to check it all out when I got it. I wasn't sure if he was using it the first night, because it is so quiet compared to the plastic one he had. No squeaking, and no banging against the cage's bars at night, so I am not kept up by it all night! I have since seen him using it, so I know he's enjoying it.
