I don't know if I should get the Flying Saucer or Chin Spin. I read on this forum that someones chin spin broke the cage bars. Any suggestions?

didnt someone suggest to back it with a piece of wood? maybe do a thread search. i have that cage, although it is currently not being used and when richie was first in it, i had a small ledge on the bottom and just by him jumping on it the spindle or whatever it is called did break loose.

that was me. I had the chin spin in a Feisty Ferret for about 3 months with no issues, but then the bars snapped. I learned its not welded as well as other cages. I have followed the advise of adding the wooden pieces in between wheel and cage and so far it has worked wonders. It is much quieter as well. Fingers crossed it will continue to work :)

I have been reading n finding out the pro n cons of the feisty ferret cage. I am considering this cage since I have limited space in my chin room. Knowing the drawbacks of the one side door, the bars are not good enough for wheel, I woul love to hear more advices from anyone who are using feisty ferret cage.

I use the feisty ferret because of space limitations as well. I also have a FN, but keep it at my boyfriend's place when I take Yumi with me. Hands down, I like the FN better because it is sturdier, but don't have any problems with cleaning the FF due to the one door. It leaves plenty of room. I have to put a fleece liner on both levels because of the wire bottoms. I like the pull out tray for ease of cleaning when things do fall through. I think it might be cramped for space if you use a flying saucer, but the bars will break away at the welds with a chin spin if you don't brace them with wood or metal. Yumi is around 600 grams and none of the bars have broken with her jumping on the ledges after 9 months. Overall, we like the cage.

Oh yes, I have a FN as well. After putting an FN and a few superpet 3 level cages, and I could not place another FN in although I am happy with the spacious of FN. I was thinking to save cost on the bass pans by getting a FF since we could used the pull out tray. Can I remove the wire bottom by just using the plastic pull out tray only?

i do belive the bottom wire can be removed, as i have popped it out to clean it. but im not sure how it would fit out of the one door???

i like the feisty ferret. it has served me well, but i like the uniformity of the FN 142 and the ability to fit each chin in their own space. i will keep my FF for any future petsitting or temporary rescues but all my boys will be in FN's in the future.

I always thought the bottom wire could be pull out and it lay just below the door? Do u mean the bottom wire within the cage?

i thought that is what they meant. they wanted to use just the pull out tray for shavings and not place the wire on top of that.

when i did use shavings, i alwasy filled the tray with shavings and used the bottom wire and just cleaned it. it was a pain in the butt, but i did what i had to do.

now i use fleece with litter boxes.

ok I get what u mean.....

I dont like the idea of them standing on top of the wire bottom and like it just on the shaving...probably I should think twice about getting it....hmm:hmm:

ppsamm, I wanted to remove the wire bottom, too, but didn't think the plastic tray would hold up under the weight of everything. It seems to me I read somewhere about a chin escaping after a tray sagged or broke. I looked into having a metal one made, but can't find one with a lip on it so it could be pulled out. I use fleece with a litter box.
