In honor of Mother's Day I thought it would be nice to share a favorite story about your mom.

My mom have often had a rocky relationship, but after the death of my sister last July, my mom is fragile and very sad, and our relationship is one of love and support now both of us giving to each other what we think is needed.

One of my favorite mom memory's is when I was in the 7th grade. I had had long hair for awhile although my hair was never as beautiful as my sister Lisa's. Anyway Dorthy Hamill was all the rage back then and her "wedge" hair do. Mom took me to get my wedge and afterwards we went shopping for a blow dryer and hair brush! We had never used a hair dryer to dry our hair before that. Amongst all the hair products was Short & Sassy shampoo--a shampoo designed just for short hair! Woot! She bought it for me and it was mine and mine alone.

Looking back I realize how foolish a shampoo designed just for short hair was lol! But it makes me smile to remember my mom and how excited she was to buy this for me and my new hair style!

Honestly, and as bad as this sounds, most of the memories that stick out in my childhood of my mom are bad. Like, her being drunk, and me yelling at her to be quiet and go to bed. Its sad that the bad things are the things that stick out in your memories, and all the good ones get lost in the shuffle.

My favorite Mom Memory is Mom taking us to the beach. She would sit and relax and read a book while we built sand castles, ate hot dogs and cotton candy, swam, looked for shells, etc. I remember what an exciting time it was whenever we went to the beach.

I have so many. My mom has always been my "Favorite" parent and has always been there for me when I needed her. I'd be lost without her.

I'm with Liz in that most of my memories of living with my mother aren't the kind you want to talk about (outside of a therapist's office). We did usually have fun at the lunch counter at K-mart, though. As long as I finished my lunch, I was allowed to get the red jello salad parfait with whipped cream. :) It's still one of my favorite desserts.

I have many, many happy memories of my mother, who sadly died in 1987. This is one of my favorites.

She and my dad divorced when I was 6, my sister Valerie was 4 and the baby, Kimetha, was 2. Imagine a single mom (when divorce was not really the standard back in the 1950s) with 3 small kids under the age of 6.

I am of of 3 sisters. We were ALL horse obsessed, expecially growing up in Kentucky, as you can probably imagine.

Whenever one of those little carnivals that used to travel around and just set up anywhere was in our area, we loved to go ride the Merry-Go-Round, over and over. Sometimes, we would go more than just one night.

When it was time for the carnival to pack up and move to another location, we 3 girls were always convinced that it WAS possible that in the packing up, the carnival people might possibly forget one of the horses from the Merry-Go-Round, and we would beg mother to go to the old location and check to see if there was one.

My mother, god rest her soul, humored us EVERY time!!! As an adult, I can't imagine how she was able to let us talk her into doing it EVERY SINGLE TIME, but she did, and we never found a horse that was left behind, but the fact that she took us to look is one of my (and both of my sisters') very favorite childhood memories.

Every time I see a little traveling carnival, I think back to my childhood, and yes, I have gone back to check once or twice myself!!!

Just telling this story is making me teary eyed and sad that my dear mother is no longer here with me. I miss her every day, but I know that she's in Heaven watching over me and my sisters.

Happy Mothers Day, Mommy -- I love and miss you so very much!!!

Lynn, that is an AWESOME story! I applaude your mom being a single mom in a time when it was so rare. My father's mom--my grandma, was an unmarried single mom back in 1936 so I know how tough that stuff was. I know they say men are the stronger gender, but women are very resilient and silently strong.

I'm sorry those carny folks never forget a horse for you!

Well ... I do remember her trying to cut my hair herself.
She used a shaving device (can't remember the correct name) but forgot to put the cap on.

She started in the middle of my head.
Result: One giant stripe of baldness!

Not that nice, but looking back to it makes me chuckle

My mom and I have had sooo many adventures especially with the chinchillas. She has always been my partner in crime. I remember going to buy my very first female. a beige named baby. We drove up into michigan and picked her up (4 hour trip) headed home and got lost...we couldn't call my dad because he had no clue what we were getting into and he would have killed us knowing we were getting another chin and this was for breeding.
Well we got unlost and made it home 5 minutes before he pulled in the driveway. Now it makes us giggle because I am up to 120 and married now. Even Dad laughs at that as he is into the chinchillas too. But me and mom hid this chinchillas for about 6 years he thought I had 3 in my room when I was up to 20 LOL Now we all laugh about it

Mom's only been gone since July, and as much as I try, I can't pick a favorite - they ALL still fill my head, and kinda rush by!
Happy Mothers Day, Mom!! I may go to the gravesight today!

I too have quite a few good memories with my mother...well my family in general. When we were growing up we did a LOT of fun stuff together and even traveled across the country. One of my favorite memories I think is when we'd bring a cat home.

My dad HATED cats and refused to let my mom have more than one at a time AND the cat had to be an outdoor cat. Well...after our second cat died to coyotes my mom convinced him that the next cat had to be an indoor cat. We ended up adopting an all white, crippled minx and named her Popcorn because when she walked her butt would pop up into the air...and her little nubbin tail looked like a piece of popcorn popping, lol. So, Poppy was in the house and we found a grey tabby minx kitten that needed a home. My mom couldn't resist and all four children begged horribly. So we brought her home. My dad saw her and started yelling and screaming and my mom said, "Well, Honey, we can't have Popcorn without Pepsi!" I think he was just so stunned that he let us keep her, lol.

My parents now have three cats and three dogs...so much for my dad's "animals are not pets" policy!

Oh, Tabitha -- that story made me laugh out loud!!! I can just see your mom saying that-- it's such a convincing argument!!!

Hooray for parents with soft spots in their hearts!!!
