Ok So the my other thread in the chit chat debate section got me thinking.
What would you do if someone used pics. ,artwork , ect from your website without permission. If you had it happen please add a reply and tell us what you did and if you were happy with the outcome.

I have had pictures "stolen" from my site. When I asked they be removed the person claimed they were not trying to claim the chins as their own, simply giving an example of basically a "similar item" if you know what I mean. They DID however remove the pictures. In such a case I am happy with the outcome being removal of the "stolen goods"

I would just ask them to remove them. I am not saying it isn't that big of a deal, but perhaps they didn't know that it was wrong.

It depends on how the pictures were used. If they were used a general example of something, then fine. If they were used a representation of something that wasn't yours and you play it off as such, then I'd be miffed.

If I knew who it was I would ask them to switch,, but otherwise I am the sneaky one who would change the pics. Ahh... the passive agressive side of me coming out. LOL

For me it would depend on how the pictures were being used. If someone was using my pictures and claiming them as their own, then I would have a problem with it. However, if they were just using the pictures as general examples or for informative purposes, I probably wouldn't care. It would, of course, be nice if they asked first.

I would reupload the pic with a different name if it is hotlinked. If not, then I would contact them and ask them to remove it.

Well, my situation wasn't so much as chins.
I uploaded pictures of Deonna, my best friend that was killed, to my myspace as a memory of her, the ONLY thing that I have left.
My cousin stole it. Didn't tag it, didn't mention that it was originally mine, stole it.
Now, my cousin didn't even -like- Deonna and bad mouthed her constantly.
So I've been sending User Abuse warnings to myspace daily praying they'd take it down.
Seems like even your most dearest things aren't yours anymore.

Had a server upgrade recently that allows me to disable hotlinking. So far it has worked nicely.

I contact the people, nicely the first time. See if they know what they are doing. Roughly 50% of them really have no clue that they need to download the pic to their server and display it, not hotlink it.

If they ignore me I pull GOATSE on them, content depending on the site/offender. MUAHAHAHA...

By far the majority of people have asked to use my stuff and have cited me. Haven't found anyone with anything un-cited in a year or two. :)

I wouldn't have a problem with people using My pix in the right context, although the more I think about it I really don't want pix of My girls on peoples pages/sites if they are perfect strangers, My Ladies are feeling exploited now... I use photo bucket for almost EVERYTHING so all rights given up there unless you put Your Name ON each and every pic, right??

On the other side of this, I have a chinnie awareness page on Myspace and have put some pix on the site that I wish I knew who the responsible party/parties were for these wonder pix/drawings...
My disclaimer?.?.?
All of these pix are posted under "Who I would like to meet, the People who are responsible for the following photos/drawings" But if ANYONE wanted the pix removed I would do it immediately!!
:winkers:

I have people using my charcoal/pastel photos on various sites - most of them are watermarked anyway and most people have been courteous enough to ask to use them first - if I find any photos/info that is not watermarked or has not been acknowledged then I ask them to acknowledge the source or remove them. So far everyone I have contacted has been happy enough to acknowledge the source - even foreign language sites.
However, if they refused to do either of those options then I'd just make the watermarks much more obvious. ;)
Personally I think information is there to be shared and as long as the info is correct, in context, and the original author/photographer/artist is clearly acknowledged then I have no problem. :)

Not if you put them online. You cannot put one picture on the internet without the realization that it will remain there for as long as it exists, the hands of anybody that would like to photoshop them or put them on /b/ or other such sites.

I had pictures stolen from my website, and the watermark with copyright symbol cropped off the bottom. I was pretty pissed. I told them they needed to remove it and they did, but people can be a lot worse about it.

I'd be okay if somebody had posted a picture with a link back to me or something, but I'd like to be asked first. I wouldn't want any of my chin photos on websites where the content was not in line with what I did.

I would just ask them to remove it. Course I've never had this happen. I'd be pretty miffed though if they were claiming my picture was of a chin THEY owned. Ask before you take, even if you're just using it as an example. But I LIKE people's ways of thinking with the creative picture switching, ahahaha.

Personally, I wouldn't mind, so long as people had asked permission and creditted it back to myself.
If they had stolen it, again, I would ask for credit, or removal.
If they had hotlinked and were therefore using my server, then i'd change it to something else for them.

I would contact them directly asking them to remove the photo. If they failed to respond I would take further action. Any photos I upload usually have watermarks and my site has hot linking disabled.

If they were just showing the pictures as example, not saying they owned the animal, I wouldn't mind but I would ask them to mention the origin of the picture, maybe a link to my site or whatever. But for any other purpose, I would ask them to remove it.

If they didn't ask then they shouldn't keep it PERIOD! IMO.
Regardless of credit given or not. I'd make sure it was removed.
One way or another.
