What type of wood is this?

I got this wooden perch along with my chinchilla from my aunt and uncle 6 years ago. They bought a wire cage, this perch, bedding, food, and hay from the chinchilla ranch. It reminds me of those snake perches in snake cages and some wild animal. I'm not sure if it's completely safe for chinchillas. My chinchilla has chewed on it but I was always wondering what tree its from. On the bottom it looks burnt kind of. The chinchilla ranch had other animals too like rabbits, birds, etc. I cant seem to find what kind of tree this was from.

It looks like a manzanita perch to me. Run your fingers along the bottom where there is still bark, if it's super smooth, then that's what is probably is.

yep, looks like manzanita to me too. widely used in reptile enclosures, and safe for chins to chew too.
