Please advise
I just got chin chin for 1 week 4days. He has been doing well no signs of biting the cage or water bottle till just now. And for the first time I heard some sort of a grinding sound from him. The thing is that I was doing the same thing of opening the cage and talking to him that's mainly what I have been doing few times a day since I hve gotten him. Please advise what could possibly be happening? I have tried looking for rose hips here in Singapore but haven managed to find it. What oats can I give him? And instead of rose hips I gave dried rose is it ok?

The grinding you hear is probably your chin grinding his teeth. He might be grinding them because a chins teeth continuously grow and hes just trimming them. You should give him something to chew on like wood or pumice.

chopsticks! clean and free! Just be careful because they splinter

Sometimes chins just grind their teeth, I've heard mine do it in their sleep before too.

Dried rose petals are fine. You can give old fashioned, slow cook oats (not instant oats) or whole oats.

I would definitely go with wood chews. Make sure their chemical free i'm sure any pet stores would have wood chews. To be safe i'd go buy wood chews from pet stores. And just because it doesn't have a picture of a chinchilla on it it would still work. As long as it says it's made for pets. And grinding noise is what everyone says it's them trimming their teeth but with the wood chews or apple chews would help them alot and keeps them busy and entertained. =)

Make sure the rose petals are natural and organic. Not the kind from florist's or even a garden if the have been sprayed with pesticides. Chins don't even have to have treats, just food, water, hay and wood chews

I do not have wood chew but I got this banns
Thing for him to chew on. It's bananna flavored mineral chews. The ingredients are salt calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, artificial coloring n flavored. He has teething hanging from the cage got him to chew and a log full of hay inside also for him to chew and the shelvings are all wood too.

i would still get him some wood to chew on. also many chins like pumice which is a type of stone. you can get good quality wood and pumice from many people on here for a really good price

Wood chews are just natural branches or pieces of organic, if possible, wood. If you have a chinchilla safe wood growing near you that is not sprayed or near streets where exhaust can affect them you can make your own. My chinchilla especially enjoys cottonwood, kiln dried pine and applewood. Chopsticks would make a great chew stick but I would try to stick with wood ones personally as bamboo splinters.
