I have one very heavy chewer here and she goes through a hammock every few days from chewing the top where the rings are....
does anyone else have a really heavy chewer that has come up with a solution to this? different fabric maybe? thicker fleece?

Thats what I have done for now, removed all fleece but wondering if there was a better fabric that anyone has found that is stronger, as she loves her hammock......always in it....

I got some hammocks made from one person on chins n quills, forget who it was, but it was the best fabric ever, with cute safari theme of elephants, giraffes etc, that she even cut out for cuddle buddies.... really thick fleece and never had a problem with it, but the new hammocks I got are really flimsy. I can't seem to find the really thick fleece in fabric stores either....maybe it is just Canada? don't know, but will keep looking....
if anyone on here sells REALLY thick hammocks, please contact me! I never had a problem with all of my old hammocks, but lately the fleece hammocks I have been buying are not as good quality, much thinner.....

I think the problem may also be that over the years the quality of fleece has been diminishing. Every time I go to Joanne's it seems like the fleece is thinner. Hancock's has better quality fleece. Do you have any fabric stores in your area? Your best bet is just go look through all the fleece and see if you can find anything that may work.

I can't seem to find the best quality fleece here......:(
so until I do, my one "chewer" will be fleeceless and hammockless......
she never had a problem before, but lately the fleece is too thin to last for her chewing...
unless anyone knows of anyone on here that sells the really really thick fleece hammocks?

i don't know so I'm asking.......
If they chew on the fleece, should they be allowed to have fleece in the cage even if it is the good thick fleece? Wont they still be able to chew the good stuff too?

Yes. They are still able to chew off pieces and ingest it, no matter how thick it is. People use fleece because it doesn't come apart into threads if it is chewed, but they also should remove the fleece item if it is being chewed so it doesn't cause issues down the line (if consumed).

If it were me, I would not use any fabric in with a chinchilla who was known to chew the fleece.

I have had hammocks with this girl for years without issues it is just the last few batches of hammocks that I have had made...that she is able to chew....
do you think I should pull all hammocks from her even though she has never had a problem for years? I was hoping just to get the same quality fleece and never have an issue again like before....????

Maybe she just started chewing the fleece, and she didn't before. I would not give any chin fleece that chews it. As soon as I notice significant chewing, it's gone.
