i only have one chinchilla as of now, but in the future im hoping to expand my chinchilla family.

Most people like the Ferret Nation 142 or the Critter Nation. They are very similar, but the CN is a bit easier to put together (no tools necessary) and is a bit sturdier. It's also more expensive.

The Ferret Nation cages made by Midwest come highly recommended on here. The Ferret Nation 142 models are nice because you can split them into two cages, if need be. I have two of these cages and love them. Quality Cages is another good company. They make the Chinchilla Mansion, etc.

I think there's a sticky in the FAQ with recommended cages.

Best Website About Cages...

http://mistywaterwoman.webs.com/cages.htm

Names great cages, gives examples of good and bad cages, show how to chin proof cages and make them chin appropriate, and also gives advice on wheels, bedding, etc. I love this site and reccomend it often!

My cage is from Quality Cage Company. They don't make my cage model anymore, though it's equivalent in size to the two door chinchilla mansion and broken into two levels. The top part is detachable, so I can use it as a quarantine cage if necessary. It was actually a ferret cage, but I took out all the extra metal ramps and levels.

All cages have pros and cons. The FN cages are excellent. Just not when you have that skittish chin. Grabbing them from the cage can be crazy if they happen to jump out since the doors are basically the front of the cage. With FN cage as well, invest in getting pans made, they are so much better on cleaning, as well as not having plastic in there!

ferret nation is probly the answer you will get most here. they are huge! i suggest getting the 142 model (2 stories). they cost around 200 dollars i think but you can sometimes find them cheaper on craigslist. theres a HUGE thread on here that has amazing ferret nation setups, you should check them out. im on the same boat as you, getting a chinchilla in the future and all and getting as prepared as possible. th thread on here gave me some great ideas that i think will help you to. make sure that if you r going to use wood shavings as bedding that you get the bass pans so your chinchilla doesnt chew the plastic. (very dangerous). also give them plenty of toys and extra shelves. the ferret nation cage is the best cage for the price and is amazing quality!
