What combs are essential?

What combs (like #1, #2, #3, etc.) are the best to get?

A lot depends on what you want to do with them. For rough grooming a number 3 works well in most cases. A number 4 works for very thick furred animals and for animals way out of prime, matted or blowing fur. If showing a number 2 can get you by but a number 1 works well after a number 2 for separating the fur tips and improving the looks of the fur. Some of us even use a 0 and 00 which are very fine to get the best possible finish on grooming.

Depending on how many you want to buy, many only want to buy 2 combs and they will get a 1 and 3 or a 2 and 4. Others will buy the whole set of 1-4 and others go so far as to get all 6 and get the 0 and 00 ones too. We sell the most of the 1-3 usually, especially if you are showing or plan on showing.

I would say either a 4 or 3 if you are not planning on showing, just to comb out the loose fur in the summer time.
