I need a new cage because I got another chinchilla. My 4 month old chin is now okay with my new chin and its been 45 days so its safe from any problems and they like each other because they sleep as close as possible to one another because i still have my new chin in his temporary cage because my other cage is to small. So its time to let them share a cage. Which would you get out of these two?

I like the first one because its decent sized and has more metal shelves than the second one. I like the second one because everybody I've talked to recomended it to me, but I'm still unsure. Also, its okay to use metal shelves right? Just checking. Thanks a lot :)

If you're going to spend that much on those cages, you might as well get a Ferret Nation or something from Quality Cage. Those cages are extremely flimsy from my experience and I wouldn't even put a ferret in them much less chins. A friend of mine has the folding mansion and had ferrets in it and the entire cage caved in one night which broke one of her ferret's legs. Chins are much more fragile, and with them jumping, I wouldn't risk using the cages.

I'm sure that there are a few people here who use them, but a Ferret Nation is pretty popular these days and should be around the same price.

They are both OK cages and metal shelves are acceptable but I would toss the ramps out. Either one will still need work. For ideas on reworking cages, see the thread here about the Ferret Nation Club. Lots of good photos. I have photos at my website showing some reworked pet store cages, too.

We posted at the same time. I would take this advice.

I would get a Ferret Nation if you are going to spend that kind of money. You can sometimes find them in PetSmart. They are incredibly sturdy and easy to clean.

If it were me, I'd go for the FN too. You might even being able to price match one at petsmart if you don't want to deal with shipping.

Well they all are 24 cubic feet so they have the same living space. Ferret.com has the FN on sale for $175 and they have $7 shipping.

Personally I would go with a Martin's Townhouse it has 37.5 cubic feet of living space. If you ask them to ship it gutted (without the wire shelves) you can get it cheaper.

ferret.com doesn't have the $7 shipping anymore - they charge $4.99 or $7.99 + fees by weight now (.29 a lb). At 92 lbs, they're charging $26.68 on top of the regular shipping charge for a FN - so $206.66 minimum. This really sucks because I buy my ferret food from here and its now $70 a bag.

I have the first one. I get alot of poo flying out and the sides had to be re-enforced with clamps and ties because they are really flimsy...
