Weird noise?!

At 24 seconds, I begin to say his name but stop. So that voice is mine

What does that sound mean?

Just a chinchilla nightmare. Flea does it all the time.

But what if they do it when they are awake? Could they be afraid of something, like the noise of a washer/dryer?

Yes, it is just a warning noise they would use if they were in a group of chinchillas.

Yep, it'd an alarm call. i think i read that the speed of the call and the length can indicate how far away the perceived danger is.
