My six month old male chinchilla Wally is 480 grams.

My five month old male chinchilla Orville is 589 grams.

Is Wally healthy for his age? I am worried about him.

Actually, I think I figured out the issue. I think Orville is a brevicaudata chin and Wally is a lanigera chin. Lanigeras are smaller. That would explain it.

chins come in weights ranging from as small as 400 to over 1000 grams. as long as your chins are healthy, eating and pooping well, and you can't feel their bones (ribs, spine), then i would not be worried about weights at all. being as your boys are both under a year, you'll see them gain some more weight as they get older.
