Hello!

I am new to owning a chinchilla and I have some questions. I recently bought a chinchilla and now I want another one. But the other one I want to buy was in the cage with the one I already bought. I just need to know is it safe to buy her. Because at the time when I bought my first one they seemed fine together but I just want to make sure!

i would assume so. Usually new chins are quarantined for 30 days, but if they lived together up until a few days ago, then i would guess its ok.

Where they living together a long time? Brought up together? Or dd the last owner just throw them in a cage together recently?

I bought my first chin a week ago, from Petsmart. The manager told me that both of the chins were shipped to the store together and were in the same glass aquarium the whole time they were there. She told me they were completely fine everyday in the store and always got along, we also asked about same caging them and she said it should be fine because they weren't separated for a long time, only a week. So we put them together but have been watching them a lot, they seem fine I just don't know if I should be worried or not when we need to go to work and no one will be home with them. I know they still have to try to remember and get to know each other again. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply!

I would tend to agree with the above. However, just know that even though they seemed okay together, doesn't mean they will act that way in a new cage, especially since the cage has become the territory of your current chin. Your current chin may have issues with sharing, so be ready with a new cage in case the new chin is rejected and fighting occurs.

Thank you both! They have been really good, and don't show any signs of not liking each other, at least when I'm home with them. They seem to like to sleep right next to each other. But we will be transferring them to a bigger cage sometime this weekend so hopefully everything still works out.

Be careful. Sometimes a trip to the vet is enough to get two chins fighting that used to get along really well. I would recommend that you get a small cage that will fit inside the big cage and do the cage in a cage method, just to be safe. You would hate yourself if you just put them together and they fought to the death.
