I am leaving for 3 days to go out of town. I have hired a pet nanny (who owns a chinchilla herself) to come by once a day and check on my little guy, make sure AC is working fine, refill food, clean the cage a little etc.

I am wondering if I should maybe leave the radio on on a low setting for my chin as some backround noise while I am away.

Do you think it matters? Would he possibly like that?

I keep a radio on at all times in the barn. The funny part is, it's a burnt Linkin Park/Dead by Sunrise mp3 cd that's been on repeat since April - I never get tired of it. I wonder if they're tired of it yet? LOL

When I go on vacation, my mom is my pet sitter and I had timers set for the radio and the light in the room that the chins were in. I had them set for the times that we are normally up and going during the day. At night I had night lights plugged in the outlets to give them a little light. That might be too much for 3 days but we were gone for 8.

Thanks, I do have the radio on during playtime when he is out of his cage and he seems to love it. Glad I asked, I will def leave the radio on for him then :)

I leave mine on NPR since it's all news. I like to think that they enjoy hearing voices all day to drown out lawn mowers and barking dogs.

Those poor chins! They probably feel like I do working at the hotel. The same music OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER..... :hair:

That poor CD?! I'm surprised it hasn't shattered yet.

Not that I can say much. I leave it on HBO, which plays the same movies and shows over and over. My poor chins! :p

I'm thinking about just sticking another LP album in... I think they'd go into culture shock with a different voice. heheheheeh

My chinnies get country music...which I sing to them when I'm in there. Only Ophelia appreciates it though...the others bark at me.

Chinnies love music, I have mine on 24/7 and I've yet to meet a rancher or breeder that doesn't have music on for their chins. ;)

I thought I was the only one that sings to them. It's terrible really, but he seems to love it during play time. Popcorns all over the place.

My favorites so far are CSI or Country, haha. So either they are going to be bustin' rhymes or fightin' crimes ....love it! Haha

Mine like the most annoying station ever - adult contemporary with slightly over the hill DJs, who think they are really cool and with it. Imagine if *I* were a DJ and how annoying it would get with my constant misuse and misunderstanding of popular slang from the last 15 years....then you would understand what I have to listen to every day. They are in love with a woman named Jenny...she's on in the morning and they listen intently...and if I turn off the radio, I get barking and pouting.

hehehe bustin rhymes or fightin crimes... :)

I am going to try this out tonight and see if I find a station he likes. The things we do for our babies .....

Sorry Mama J and Tab but I would not torture my chins with country music LOL! When my chins were in the livingroom they loved watching the forensics shows--now they are in the bedroom with me and have to look at me or themselves in the large mirror--but they have been listening to music--rock, opera, or boy bands! Poor chinnies!

NPR sounds perfect, I think I may put a radio in the chin room, since I do not have an extra TV at this time!
