I have a lovely 2.5 year old male chin I received from Lynn Milly of [http://www.lynnschins.com/]. He is very friendly and no complaints other than this.

I recently got him a 15 inch Chin Spin that he loves. At night because he is in our bedroom, we block the wheel from being able to spin so the noise does not keep us up, and we get him out beforehand so he usually sleeps through the night anyway. However lately he keeps peeing in it while it is stationary, goes to sleep in his bed, and then will run back down to it and try to use it later and get gross. The wheel does cover one corner of the cage (only place it'd fit) where he would use the bathroom but he also uses the opposite corner just as much and that is open- how do I discourage this behavior- it's going to make him dirty!

Since you can't move the wheel, you may need to move the cage so that he can use the wheel. He could be upset that the wheel doesn't turn so he is now using it as his potty. You also need to take the wheel out and clean it with a mixture of white vinegar and water and then dry it completely before putting it back in the cage. My chins are in the basement where my husbands "man cave" is and he once (and only once) blocked the chins' wheels while he was watching a movie and 2 of my boys went nuts in the cage because they couldn't use their wheels.

Different species here, but I can definitely attest to witnessing rather upset hedgehogs when their wheel running activities were threatened. Growling even. One does not mess with a wheel ;)

Is there a way you can remove the wheel at night and replace in the morning?
