Urgent to all who use citizens bank

If you use citizen banks and also use their debit card/mastcard, call up the bank immediately and CLOSE THAT CARD OUT. I just checked online my statement like I always do and noticed that someone stole my debit/credit card number and charged close to $700. I also found out that alot of citizens bank's card numbers were stolen. I never personally lost my card, so this is how they must of gotten my number, being stolen from Citizens Bank. So I urge you all who use this bank to close their cards out before it happens to you, and they will send you out a new card, with a new number.

Compass Bank was also hit. We received a letter notifying of us of the credit card numbers being stolen.

Even so, it could have been stolen from there. Has your bank said that their credit card numbers were stolen? Or are you just assuming that?

It's definitely a problem with several different banks right now. I received a letter from Compass Bank yesterday notifying us of the hacking and the stealing of the credit card numbers. They are sending ALL new Compass Bank customers new credit/debit cards because of this. Luckily we weren't hit (at least not as of yet) and when I called Compass they told me that if we weren't hit already they were 99% sure we would not be. Either way though we are getting new cards with different numbers.

If this was any other point in time I would say that it may have been something purchased online, but since this is a problem with several different banks I wouldn't doubt it had something to do with that.

Your best bet is to call the bank and ask them about the stolen card numbers and to see if your bank was affected. Either way, hopefully you have already canceled the card and are on your way to getting your money back.

I just found out from my bank, which is a credit union, that both my card and my husband's card has been compromised and we need to cancel our cards and get new ones. They had put my card on a $200 limit and warned me to pay close attention to my account until the card is canceled, but unfortunately the letter came a day after I tried to spend $300 at the grocery store and my card was refused. I was very embarrassed. But better safe than sorry. I had just gotten a new card, after I thought I had lost my old, and now I have to replace it again! I would like to know where my card was used that made it compromised!

Actually the the Royal Bank of Scottland (RBS) own Citizensbank and RBS lost a ton of numbers to their debit cards/mastercards, so although I do agree it can happen other ways (people stealing your number) but this time it is the fault of RBS.

So again everyone beware and I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. That is alot of money to lose, especially when you are not working, although they are investigating it and I should get the money back, I need it now. So it's like too bad for me at that moment.

My bank is pretty good about catching this sort of thing ahead of time. They'll call us if they suspect anything. My parents got a call from the bank last week saying a computer had been hacked (not one of theirs...some other business) and its possible their debit info was compromised. The bank called to say they were canceling their debit cards for that account and issuing new ones and to inform them if we notice any fraudulent charges.

Just a couple weeks ago my bank called my son and I and told us our debit card numbers may have been compromised. We did not have any money missing but we did cancel our cards and receive new debit card numbers. Something must have happened on a very large scale to have all these banks calling their customers.

I got a letter from my bank too. The way they explained it was that a nationwide processing company's system was breached, compromising everybody's PINs and credit/debit card numbers. I'm still waiting on my new one in the mail, haha.

Yes I am aware that some banks have had breaches. My husband got a letter from Hancock Bank about 2 or 3 years ago and had to get a new card as well. Mine was from an online hacker.


I had $1500 stolen in the form of purchases made from 1800petmeds and dr.'s foster, smith, and grant, and randomly, Yahoo personals. Luckily I called all three businesses and got the transactions cancelled and received refunds in less than 10 days without an investigation. I just explained the situation and they were very helpful except for dfsg who did not want to reveal what was purchased or where it was shipping...but I did get out of her it was also $750 in pet vitamins (same from 1800) and 75$ in overnight charges (!). It was very satisfying that they did not get what they tried to steal from me but man that was a terrible feeling.
