Please excuse my frustration in the post, but jesus christ....why does EVERYONE seem to want to breed chinchillas lately? I put up an ad on a classifieds website just letting people in the area know that I was available to take in chinchilla rescues if there were anyone who needed to surrender. I have gotten 4, yes 4, emails just today asking how easy it is to breed chinchillas and if I had any females to go with their males, ect. Are you serious?! UGH. I was very nice in my responses back to them (but stern) and gave them all a link here telling them to read the breeding section just to get an idea of some things that could go wrong. Does everyone just think chins are like dogs?

I'm so frustrated. I'll get over it, I just needed to vent. :hair:

I made good and sure with every rescue I took in, when people inquired, that I said first on the ad "These are not to be bred. They have no back ground, I have no idea if they carry any genetic diseases that may or may not be fatal. Anyone who adopts must sign a no breeding contract" and basically the contract stated "If I ____ use a chinchilla acquired from ___ for breeding purposes, I will automatically loose all legal rights. The chinchilla and possible offspring or offspring produced from the union will be returned back to ____, and I ____ will lose all ownership rights to said chinchilla and kits and will be banned from ever returning or adopting from ___ again" No one complained when I explained. Maybe you could fix the ad? It might keep you from getting as many annoying e-mails =[

I have an adoption contract specifically stating this, though I didn't put that in the ad. I didn't even think about it, so this is my fault too.

I'm not even frustrated that I'm getting these emails. I don't mind answering poeple's questions, I'm more frustrated that people just want to breed anything with a penis and vagina because they will produce "cute babies". I just don't understand people.

Thank you very much for that. Again, I didn't even think about the people contacting me wanting to back yard breed. I will definitely be changing the ad and putting this in there.

And again, this is just me venting. I'm normally not this uppity. It was just with the other thread and the 4 emails in one day asking the same exact question it just put me over the edge a bit. :p

Naw, don't worry about it. People...They don't care about risks anymore, they just care about money which is why I think a lot of rescues don't get adopted...It's heart breaking.
BTW! I'm taking in that 5 year old rescue boy Saturday. I'm excited, but nervous ._.

It is frustrating, isn't it? I adopted out a rescue a little while back, a white mosaic female that just did NOT get along with other chins. Might have kept her if she had, but she just refused to get along with mine, no way, no how. Anyway, I specifically stated in the ad that she was not to be used for breeding and that I would NOT recommend that anyone put her with another chin, as she had injured two of mine (she got along with them for a month or so and then SNAP and attacked them).

Of course, surprise surprise, the first 3 emails. Well, I have a male, his name is Fluffy, and I think they'd be good to breed together, they'd make cute babies. Or something of the like. Frustratingly annoying, isn't it? To start with, read the ad, but secondly, and mostly, why does EVERYONE want to breed?

I mean what happened to people just wanting pets? I talk to a lady that volunteers at a chihuhua (sp?) rescue and they spay/neuter all the dogs before they're adopted out. She said they CONSTANTLY get asked to please please please let someone adopt out an un-spayed/un-neutered dog. I mean, for what, other than to breed?

What happened to just have a pet, enjoy it's company? Why does everyone feel the need to bring more little fuzzballs into the world?

When I bought my dog, she didn't have papers, I don't know her history, nothing. 6 months of age, BOOM, she had an appt to be spayed. Didn't even think TWICE about it. Course, maybe that's cause I know better, but I don't understand how people can just want to (as an above poster put it) take any animals with a penis and vagina and breed em. Some just SHOULDNT be bred.

That, and especially in the area where I live, pitbulls are overpopulated. Every other dog (if not more) in the shelters are a pitbull. And THREE times in the last like 2 days have I seen posts on forums/craigslist/etc saying "I have a male pitbull and he's great and I wanna stud him out" or the converse, a female looking for a stud. Um, did I MISS something???? The shelters can't adopt out the pitbull puppies that are out there, NO ONE seems to want an adult one, and people are breeding MORE?!? Someone please explain the logic to me.

/rant over.

I just wish it was easier to neuter and spay chinchillas. Every single baby or adult I would put up for adoption would be neutered or spayed.

They are looking for free chinchillas to make a quick buck breeding them. It's going to be worse with the economy so tight, everyone's looking for ways to make some extra money. And if they can get free chinchillas, well, they don't have to invest any money ahead of time in case it fails. Bah.

It says on the very front page of my website that there is an adoption fee for a chinchilla. It also says in every ad I posted (in caps no less) that I do NOT have any chinchillas for adoption at this time. Ugh.

People are just so annoying.

I know, but they're also of the mindset that if they cannot get free ones, they will be a lot less expensive than getting one from a pet store or a breeder. Plus, they may be thinking that the adoption fee is like $10-20, which would be a small investment compared to what they think they could sell the kits for.

It is frustrating. I am not against new breeders, I just want them to start out in the right direction, but people seem to never want to take advice. and they breed crap. It isn't even about pedigrees. It is about quality. A chinchilla can have a fantastic pedigree and still be poor quality. I think people think it will be easy and they can make a buck. I have no simpathy when they come back and whine about handfeeding or lost kits. I feel for the animals but not the idiots who insisted nothing could happen to them

It's not just chinchillas...look at dogs. Everyone and their mother wants to breed dogs.

Just had someone at work who had pugs, took it to a friends house who had pugs(they may or may not be related), and let them breed. Mom had a litter of pups. Never passed the placenta, so now mom is almost dead because they never took the time to educate themselves, and didn't know what to expect when she had pups. They are now bottle feeding the pups, and the pups aren't doing well either. When I found this out, I threw a fit and was told "Well, they aren't breeders". Said -yes they are. They knowingly bred that female, and should have known what to expect. If you don't know, don't breed it...that didn't make people who heard me too happy.

I am so sick and tired of everyone and their mother wanting to breed. They think it's all fun and games..and it isn't... These are the breeders who are hurting the species they are trying to breed, and in the end will run the species to the ground.

That is one reason that I don't post any ads of rescues that I have at any time or that I am a rescue on hoobly the newspaper or craigslist. I stay completely away from those sites. I hate to say it but most people who are on CL are looking for a free or cheap pet. I cannot say how many times I see people flagging CL ads since they don't like the adoption price.

And yet I still get people email me from time to time wanting a cheap chint to "put in with their boy/girl.

Ok, no more advertising for me then. I just did that because I saw a couple chins for sale on there. I should have just emailed the people directly and let them know if they needed it I would take in the chinnies who needed a new home.

People don't seem to read the ad anyway. If I say I have no chins for adoption, it means I have no chins for adoption. :p

Oh I know, that's the worst part in my mind. The last few rescues I've rehomed I have charged a fee for. Not something expensive, but like $50-75 or so, you know, something reasonble. Not cheap enough for anyone to scoop up on a whim. Yet you get those people "well its a rescue, why's it still $50?" I even had one person tell me that they shouldnt have to pay $50 because they could get a dog for free and "that's for a dog." Then GO get a dog, cause I'm not handing anyone a free chin (and yes, he wanted to breed and make babies and sell them for pet-store prices... but didn't want to pay the $50 for the chin).

A friend of mine's sister had two dogs, a male and a female. Neither were fixed, she said she didn't think the male "had it in him." *raised eyebrow* Guess what??? Puppies! I mean really? Are people this dumb? Then, she had to give the dad away because "I guess he did have it in him." *shakes head*

I would go the private email route if you do anything with CL. The sad thing I see on the Orlando CL is most people who are rehoming their chins want to get back the $$ that they put into them in the first place.

CL seems to breed stupidity in some people even when I selling something like a chair or bookshelf. If I get one email asking "where are you located" I get a thousand of those. Duh..its right there in black and white..

Essentia, I have found that the people who reply to classifieds apparently do not go to the website even if it is listed. I get emails all the time asking what's available, pictures, and prices when it says to visit the website clearly in the ad and sometimes there is even a link to click; you don't even have to copy and paste. I have also found that living in FL with chins is very different, no one cares about pedigrees; know how many people have asked me about a pedigree over the last year? A grand total of ONE. I haven't had any in a while but at first I had a bunch of people that were "not breeders" but wanted a female for their male. I may have "forgotten" to get back to a few of them. Heck the other week I had some girl think I was giving her 2 free chins because she cannot read!

lol....ok I have a confession to make....I was the one person that asked about the pedigree for classic chinchillas....at the time I was thinking about adopting the prolapsed buy that you had but my boyfriend talked me out of it, mainly because he was concerned that their may be future prolapses and he didn't feel as if this was something he wanted to get into....even though i tried to explain that we could suddenly have an emergancy with the ones we have....lol....still wish I could have gotten the little bugger but since then he has lost his job so in the end it was good that we did not get any more animals

I wish that people understood the difficulties of breeding and how pointless it is in a state like this where there are so many rescues in need of good homes and so many breeders down sizing their herd. The last thing we need is more crap chins out there :realmad:
