Hi, some of you might have read my other post about my two new girls. The one is very shy (thinking I should name her Shyla) but the other one is very curious and not to afraid (my stephdaughter and decided on Tinker).
Now Tinker has been chewing on the cage almost non stop and tries to sqeez through every where!! Last night she actualy found one bar that was a little bent and got out! Luckely I realized she was not there any more and found her under the couch. So I fixed the cage up so there is no way out now.
My other chins never did this and I'm wondering if it is just a temporary thing untill she gets use to her new home and enviroment? I have not seen Shyla trying to get out. Has any one had this experience and will she eventually stop?? :hmm:
Thanx in advance for the help!!

It won't stop. I'm not sure what she is chewing through. Most of us have metal pans on the bottom of our cages. Chins are curious creatures. They chew and they try to escape. I have one that tries to jump out of the cage every time I open the door.

My boys were obsessive about trying to get out of their cage and chewing on the bars when I got them. Turns out, they were bored. A larger cage, more shelves, and a few hanging toys and all the bar chewing has come to a complete stop. Maybe they're just looking for something to do?

Thanx for the reply!! I'm glad it's a normal thing!! They have chew toys that they play on and chew on when Tinker is not trying to chew through the bars. I wil look for a wheel for them to as my other chinchilla loves his wheel more than anything else in his cage. Wheels for them are just difficult to find around here.if any one know of a place that has wheels made for chinchillas in South Africa, Gauteng, Pretoria please let me know.
