Ideas please!! I worry that Poppy is getting bored! She's got a couple of toys, a hammock and a hay cube along with the hidey house and general chewy things. Should she have a wheel do you think? She comes out for 2 hours a day at least (although today and yesterday she's just wanted to hide under the piano and not bounce around)

What do your chins have for entertainment?

I just make stuff out of extra apple wood or fleece or what ever I have laying around, I'm making a swing out of the bottom half of a 'exercise' ball. Just so that way they get everything that they love, just in different ways.

All of my chins love their wheels. They are running in them all night long.

Do you have a metal one? I've seen some brilliant metal ones but they're so expensive and we've just spent £300 (sorry, English money!) at least on getting her cage and accessories I cant afford the £60-£80 metal ones cost and I'm wary of putting anything plastic in her cage. My cousin is a vet and has kept Chins in the past and she said a plastic one would be fine - but I thought I'd ask my new Chin friends instead ;)

Yes, they are all metal. I have Chin Spins and Flying Saucers. Plastic wheels wouldn't last long with chins. 1) They would be chewed. 2) They are too small for adult chins, causing them to run awkwardly and that could become detrimental to their backs. and 3) There's no way I could see a plastic wheel withstanding the speed and furiousity of my chins' running. ;)

Thanks Stacie - that's exactly what I thought! I'll save my pennies then for a metal one. I might ask Santa for one

A good wheel is expensive but it's MUST for a happy and healthy chin. And in the long run so much cheaper than buying new cheap wheels evey few months - or paying a vet bill when someone gets hurt or chews on a cheap or plastic one. You see how happy it maes her after she gets one. I hope snata can bring one.

When I got my first chin, I bought the biggest plasic one I coule find. It was around $30.00. My chin broke it in less that a week from how fast and hard he would run. And he was only about 4-5 months old! I have one now that I made. Someone on here sent me the instructions. I could forward them to you if you'd like. Only 1 of my chins has a wheel because my babies are too small still. It works great. A little loud, but it doesn't keep me up at night or anything. It cost me less than $15 to make. I'm using it until tax time when I'll be buying silver surfers and grape escapes.
If you'd like me to forward the directions to you, just pm me.

Thanks guys, as far as I can see we're pretty limited in the UK with wheels (Correct me if I'm very wrong fellow Brits! and direct me to websites!) there's the flying saucer and one made by a chap called John Hopewell who makes all things Chin..ish! but I cant find any other companies in the UK.... shipping costs would be huge from the US. The FS looks fab but AFAIK takes up a lot of space which would mean reorganising Poppy's cage (her shelves and toys!) and there's a 4 week waiting list for the John Hopewell ones as he makes them to order. :banghead:

soooo... Missjess I've PM'd you ;)

Try contacting Claire D on here..she's in the UK and may be able to point you in the right direction.

I have found out recently that my chins love loofahs. They just pick them up and run around the cage with them all night. I think it's their new favorite toy. You might want to try them. My Chins loved to do the same thing with little wood balls before but they wouldn't last very long before being chewed to pieces.
