Joob came in after a jaunt ..and she needed refreshments, so I chopped up some cactus pad and gave her a fresh bowl of water .....then I headed back to the Reptile Room with the other kids' cactus. I handfed the Igs.. still working with them... and gave the Beardie and Uromastyx their share. Empty handed, I headed back to the kitchen, to check on my Jooby girly...

..empty plate.... no more cactus... water sloshed around a bit... but..

Where's Joob?

She's helping herself to some juicy red papaya, of course! :dance3:

That is so funny, I think we need more pictures of her!

Thanks! Joob is one of my rescue kids, as well, and she was near death when I brought her home (much like Phoenix was). She was about 4" STL (snout-to-tail) then, and now she is probably closer to 7" STL. She's a Redfoot Tortoise, from Brazilian rainforests, so she is omnivorous and humidity is just as important in her husbandry, as is heat.

She's one of our favorite "kids" ..hubby sits her on his chest and reads to her... and we let her free range cuz she knows where her potty is. I dedicated about 80% of my backyard garden to her also... which means, I actually ALLOW "weeds" to grow! LOL

Her favorite thing to do in life, as far as, I know is...

Goof off in freshly cleared dirt in HER garden..

...eat!

Making friends with her, just after she arrived...

Hiding from the paparazzi ...while she devours (or tries to) a rock!

"Who said, food?"

She's beautiful! Thanks for sharing pictures.

How did you come up with the name Joob?

Thanks, again! :)

Her name comes from her heritage, sort of. Brazilians call these torts, Jubati, (or Jabuti.. my memory is bad these days), so I shortened it some ..and just call her Joob. Of course, we've added more to it ...Jooby Doob.. Joober Doober.. Jooby Dooby Doo....

..you get the idea! LOL

She's really cool. Do they get big and live a really long time like other Tortoises? You deffinately need to keep posting pics and stories. Really neat.

It is Jabuti, btw... I rechecked ;)

In general, they can live up to 50+ years ..with proper care... but Joob did not receive proper care, in the beginning. She's still going to get passed onto one of my children, I expect.

Wow, Joob is awesome! She looks like she's in heaven with you! Definitely keep posting on her!

Hahaha. I just showed my mother, this was so cute, and she laughed at how funny she was.

Thanks again, everyone! :) She's a very special girl in our house! We've had her about 2 years now, and she has definitely made her way into our hearts!

I forgot to answer the question about her size, earlier... she will not be a giant tort like some of the others. Potentially, she can reach 15" carapace/shell ...but, as I said before, she was quite stunted when I got her, so we'll just have to see. Doc Hark says she checks out fine, every time we have a visit... so there's hope! ;)
